Cops: Shooting suspects caught in Charlestown

Two men shot in Chinatown

- By Matthew Medsger

Two men were shot and three arrested after leading police on a miles long chase through Chinatown and into Charlestown early Sunday morning, police said.

“About 2:30 a.m. officers assigned to District A-1 responded to the area of Beach Street and Oxford Street for the report of multiple people shot. Upon arrival, officers observed two males, approximately in their early 30s, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” Boston Police Superintendent-In-Chief Greg Long said Sunday.

Both men, as yet unidentified, were transported to local hospitals with life threatening injuries, Long said.

Long said police were given a description of a suspect vehicle and that it was quickly spotted by officers patrolling in District 1.

“Officers … spotted this vehicle and pursued it into Charlestown. In the area of Sullivan Square in Charlestown, this vehicle subsequently crashed. Three individuals from this vehicle were taken into custody and a firearm was recovered,” Long said.

Sullivan Square is nearly 4 miles from where the shooting apparently occurred in Chinatown.

All three were transported to a hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries, according to Long. None have been identified.

“Obviously this is a very active investigation; interviews are still being conducted, the scene is being processed,” Long said.

A spokesperson for the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office confirmed that three people were in police custody and that two men were injured but still alive.

Long said the Massachusetts State Police helped Boston officers with the pursuit Sunday.
