Cops ID man killed near Roxbury school

- By Rick Sobey

The person who was gunned down outside a Roxbury school during the middle of the day last week has been identified as a 51-yearold Boston man, police said on Sunday.

David Wood was the man killed near the William Monroe Trotter K-8 School, which was placed in “safe mode” Wednesday morning following the fatal shooting. Boston Police continue to investigate the incident.

Boston Police officers responded at around 11:40 a.m. to Wyoming and Wabeno streets for a report of a person shot. The officers found Wood suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s sad and disheartening to arrive on scene and look across the street at a school, and see a bunch of kids in safe mode peering out the window wondering what’s going on,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden told reporters near the scene.

“These sort of matters require more than just a police response, more than just a response from our office,” he added. “We need a response from our community and our citizens to really help.”

Police are encouraging the community to come forward if they have any information about this incident.

“We need your help. We need a community response,” Hayden said. “When we do apprehend the individuals involved here, we will bring them to justice.”

Police are urging anyone with information relative to this investigation to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617-343-4470.
