Boston Police have charged four male juveniles in connection with a beating outside South Station that left a 20-yearold man badly injured last weekend.

Three 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old male have been charged with assault and battery and larceny for allegedly beating a local musician, Adam Neufell, a south-of-Boston resident who had been visiting the city with his girlfriend, at Atlantic Avenue and Summer Street.

Two of the suspects are from South Boston and two are from Allston. Police are not releasing the names of the suspects, as all will be charged as juveniles in Boston Municipal Court.

According to the victim’s father, Andy Neufell, the couple had missed their 11 p.m. train last Thursday and were waiting for Adam’s girlfriend’s parents to pick them up outside the MBTA station when the attack occurred, at around midnight Friday.

Neufell, 53, said four kids in an SUV began to yell derogatory and homophobic remarks at his son, presumably because he is in a rock band and has long hair.

The police report quotes a witness, who said the alleged suspects yelled that the victim should “get a haircut.”

When Adam and the suspects “exchanged words,” the witness said one of the suspects approached the victim first and punched him.

The first alleged attacker then backed up, and “all of the suspects started to ‘beat’ him,” the police report states.

Neufell said the attack left his son with serious injuries, including a broken nose and concussion. He said Adam was knocked unconscious, but the teens kept punching and kicking him when he was out cold. Adam’s girlfriend, Celia Joseph, was also thrown to the ground in the process, Neufell said.

“Just stupid kids doing something incredibly stupid,” Neufell said.

Adam is the drummer of a popular Worcester band, Young Other, which announced this week that it would be canceling its upcoming July tour dates, “due to the severity” of his concussion.

The alleged attack was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

Multiple identifications for the alleged suspects were provided to detectives through BPD personnel and “citizens in the community who viewed footage through various online platforms,” the report said.
