Three Boston schools receive educational equity grants
Three Boston schools will receive $420,000 in educational equity grants from the Boston Schools Fund this year, BPS announced Monday.
The PEAK Grants — aimed to improve student outcomes and promote access to high-quality instructional materials — will go to Adams Elementary School in East Boston, Sumner Elementary School in Roslindale and Rafael Hernandez Dual Language School in Roxbury.
The grants are the second generation of the program, which aims to improve “school quality for historically underserved students, including Black and Brown students, English Learners, and students with disabilities,” according to the organization.
BSF was founded in 2015 and said it has distributed $20 million in educational funding, spread across 50 schools and 20,000 students in Boston.
BSF CEO Will Austin said the program closely monitors outcomes data, including enrollment numbers, testing scores and school-specific programmatic goals.
“When schools utilize high-quality instructional materials — and educators are supported and trusted — student academic outcomes improve,” Austin said in a release.
The schools will receive technical assistance and coaching in addition to the grants.
In the next three years, BSF will invest $2.3 million to aid up to 12 schools, according to an announcement from the schools.
“It takes a village to build up (BPS),” Superintendent Mary Skipper said in a release, thanking BSF and other partners.
“It will take all of us to make BPS a better place for our students,” Skipper said, “and I am proud to see the sheer amount of support we have here in Boston.”
