Boycott ‘Made in China’

All China cares about is GDP.

-

In order for the Communist government to continue its economic growth — and boost its gross domestic product — consumers need to keep buying their goods. As the saying goes, this strength can be a weakness.

While China floats spy balloons and hesitates to alert the world about a lethal new coronavirus, the regime shouldn’t be allowed to have its cake and eat it, too. The pun is apt. It’s time to hit China where it hurts.

Uninstall your TikTok app hosted by the Chinese company ByteDance. Urge your kids, cousins, friends and colleagues to do the same.

Next, when you go shopping, examine the labels and stop buying cheap alternatives that read “Made in China.” This includes paintbrushes, clothes, furniture, toys, pet supplies, gadgets … the list is endless. It may prove difficult, but every little bit counts.

The use of artificial intelligence is next on China’s list to dominate — they already have us in a corner on computer chips, rare earth metals and more.

China is banking on our endless appetite for cheap stuff. But do you want spy balloons to hover over your every purchase? Enough with aggression, what China only understands is our gluttony for goods has limits.

China’s GDP is expected to expand by 5% in 2023, according to multiple reports.

The U.S. GDP climbed by 2.9% in the latest outlook, a little more than expected with recession fears still lingering as the tech sector sheds jobs like crazy. Consumer spending, a huge driver of GDP, was up slightly.

It’s all about the economy. That will keep China on its heels if Americans pull back — even slightly. Send a message that’s it’s not OK to float balloons over nuclear sites; let China know there are consequences to being dictatorial.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting China risks losing even more access to Western technology after the spy balloon fiasco, as the free world looks to hit back with stiff restrictions to tech.

If governments are pushing back, what’s stopping individual consumers? Inflation is a legitimate reason, so looking for affordable alternatives will take work. The Biden administration needs to keep examining ways to pull back from China for good.

We’re not advocating for isolationism, just a little sting to the GDP. Let Xi Jinping see a mobilized America is something he does not want to deal with.

The Journal wrote that national security analysts have been sounding the alarm about China’s surveillance practices, but the balloon offered the American public a visible picture of the Chinese threat as it crossed much of the nation.

It’s time to stop ignoring China’s naked ambitions and hit back fast. Diplomacy doesn’t always work, at least walk into the negotiating room with the buying public covering your back. Check the labels beginning today. If it says “Made in China,” take a look and see if an alternative is readily available.

If it is, put your money on America. Call it a trial balloon we can all send overseas. Consider it a boycott for the future.
