FRANCIS “FRANK” XAVIER DEVER, JR.

DEVER, Francis “Frank” Xavier, Jr. of Randolph passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 9, 2023 at the age of 79. Born on January 13, 1944 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Dr. Francis X. and Dorothy (Brooks) Dever. Frank was the beloved husband of the late Roberta Shapleigh Dever; brother of the late James A. Dever and brother-in law of the late William M. Shapleigh and James M. Shapleigh (Ann). Frank is survived by his loving children, Sarah E. Dever, Katherine “Katie” (Dever) Delaney and her husband Michael “Mike.” Also survived by his dear cousin John D. Sullivan of NY; nieces Meghan Tedesco of CA, Leigh Ann McMahon of MA, Lynn Houweling (Todd) of CA, Susan Marlow (Chris) of TN and Terri Bankemper (Carl) of CO; nephews William M. Shapleigh, Jr. of IL and Todd J. Shapleigh (Carrie) of CO; and many grandniece­s, grandnephe­ws and greatgrand­nephews. Frank was raised in Glens Falls, NY, graduating from Saint Mary’s Academy in 1962. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Assumption College as well as a Juris Doctor Degree from Suffolk University Law School. He spent 11 years working as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (later known as the DEA). Frank was a sole practition­er criminal defense attorney for approximat­ely 20 years and most recently worked as a chauffeur for Carey Limousine, enjoying many travels and good conversati­on with his passengers. Frank had a great sense of humor. He was a passionate sports fan but particular­ly loved college football and the NFL (Go Patriots!). For a time, he coached Little League Baseball where his daughters assisted him from the sidelines. An avid reader, Frank was well versed in history, law, arts and literature. Among his favorites were Rudyard Kipling’s poetry and Agatha Christie’s mystery novels. Frank had great love for his family and, of course, golfing, apple-picking season and researchin­g family genealogy. He organized many memorable family trips around New England, Western NY, Upstate NY, California, Nevada, Arizona and most recently, a trip to Ireland (Donegal) with his daughters and son-in law to commemorat­e his late wife and their mother, Roberta. Relatives and friends are respectful­ly invited to attend a visitation period on Tuesday, February 21st, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (RT. 28), Randolph. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Randolph.
