Arraignment set for today for alleged gunman

The alleged gangster accused of gunning down a teenager in broad daylight will be arraigned today, nearly two weeks after police first announced his arrest.

Csean Alexander “Shizz” Skerritt, the 34-year-old purported heavy-hitter for the Morse Street gang, will be formally charged in Dorchester district court with the murder of 13-year-old Tyler Lawrence, a slaying that saddened multiple communities and brought calls to stop the violence.

The boy was shot to death near his grandparents house in Mattapan last month in a shocking killing on a Sunday morning. Two weeks ago, a cadre of local, state and federal authorities held a press conference announcing they’d got their man: Skerritt, a gangbanger with at least a decade and a half of criminal charges, including multiple firearms raps — and a 2015 murder charge, though a jury acquitted him of that in 2017.

Authorities have said little about what they believe happened before the killing, though details put out in and following the arraignment should shed more light on the allegations.

Tyler’s killing brought vigils in his hometown of Norwood and Mattapan as loved ones and community members grappled for answers.

Meanwhile, it was actually the feds who nabbed Skerritt, who they have brought up on separate fentanyl-dealing charges. The FBI says he sold a confidential informant 55 grams of the powerful opioid just a few days after he’s accused of shooting the teenager.

He’s been in federal custody for the past two weeks after the G-men caught him in a raid at a Columbia Road address two weeks after the murder.

Authorities identified him as a member of the Morse Street gang, a small but active crew he’s been purported to be with since at least 2014, when cops wrote in a police report that he was an active gangbanger with a “penchant for violence involving firearms.”
