Malin Akerman is on a mommy mission in ‘The Donor Party’

-

What, you might ask, would drive a smart, 40-something single woman to determinedly seduce three men in one night?

In the case of Jaclyn (Malin Akerman), the beleaguered heroine of the raunchy comedy “The Donor Party,” it’s a complicated scheme to get pregnant. Without letting any of the candidates know.

“You guys don’t actually hear what women talk about behind closed doors. It’s pretty much your normal everyday day to day crazy conversations around having children,” Akerman who is also among this “Party”’s producers began.

“I have a lot of girlfriends around me who are in discussions about having kids on their own. Because they’re in their early 40s and have frozen their eggs back in the day and they haven’t found Mr. Right. There are conversations about how to go about becoming a mom. Do I do it on my own now or do I wait? If I can find a guy! Maybe I just have unprotected sex and know the guy would never know.

“Not to be taken away from the real conversations and the responsibilities that come with children, but it was just funny when this outrageous, fun experiment landed in my lap.”

Jaclyn is spurred to throw herself at three dudes after running into her ex. He swore he never wanted kids but when she runs into him he’s a dad. It’s time for Jaclyn to seize the moment, Akerman, 44, said.

“She feels like she would be a great mother and ready to do it on her own.”

Among the possible dads — an actor who does an inspired Jeff Goldblum impersonation, a nervous nerd and a classic guy’s guy. Among the birthday party’s surprises: Guests who hate and won’t speak to each other and a misplaced dose of ecstasy taken by Jaclyn’s best friend, the party’s hostess.

“Everyone’s going to have their opinions,” Akerman acknowledged of the hijinks, “but I just love crazy comedies and pushing boundaries. And the joy it brings people as well.”

At 44, the Swedish Akerman, born in Stockholm, has navigated a surprising career — she initially expected to be a psychologist.

“I can’t believe that I have created this life and lucky enough to be working in this business. I drive home and see the Hollywood sign and it’s a long way from home for sure. I guess there has to be a bit of courage and bravery involved, but you don’t see it that way when you’re in it.

“You put your head down, work hard and then you go, Oh my God! I’m doing it.” “The Donor Party” is on VOD March 3
