WILLIAM J. BONZAGNI

HINGHAM - BONZAGNI, William J entered into Heaven on 8/25/2023 at the age of 92 after a brief but brave battle with Multiple Myeloma. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Anna, son Craig, whom he adored, and son-in-law Neil Donga. He is survived by his daughters Marianne Donga, Laura Marani and husband John, and daughter-in-law Margie Bonzagni; grandchildren Callie Maggiore and husband Luis, Derek Bonzagni and wife Amanda, Jaclyn Bonzagni, Nicholas Hoitt and wife Erica, and Zachary Hoitt; great-grandchildren Natalie Hoitt, Luna Maggiore, Elliott Hoitt and Theodore Bonzagni. He is also survived by several nephews. Bill was born in Plymouth to Italian immigrants Antonio & Elizabeth. He was the youngest of 3, with a brother George and a sister Mary. Upon his graduation from Plymouth High School, he joined the Navy and served as a radioman from 1949-1953. After being honorably discharged, he received his certificate as a radio and TV technician from Saunders Radio & Electronic School and went to work for Sigma Instruments. Bill and Anna were married on Jan. 5, 1957. In 1964 they moved from Quincy to Dana Road in Weymouth where they raised their family. They enjoyed traveling to exotic places such as Thailand and Iceland once their kids were grown. Upon retiring from Sigma Instruments, He worked as a letter carrier for the USPS where he enjoyed walking his route daily, which is no surprise to those that knew him. In 2009 Bill moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham where he enjoyed a very active lifestyle. He was often hard to pin down for a visit due to his busy schedule bowling, playing poker, going to the gym, playing ping pong among some of his interests. He was also an avid gardener missing his own soil combinations and mastering the best plant food to grow his vegetables. He believed in eating healthy and staying active for a good life. For eight years, he participated in the Quincy Senior Olympics with his latest being this past May 2023. He brought home many gold medals each year in a variety of categories such as, discus, shotput, bowling, softball throw, javelin, and the one mile walk even though for the last few years he competed in a younger division due to the lack of 90 year old competitors. A memorial service will be a private ceremony for close family members only.
