LYNN O. COHEN

-

Of Allston, passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 13, at the age of 75, while living at the Hebrew SeniorLife Community in Roslindale. Their caring and compassionate staff gave her the fullest measure of her last years. Lynn was born in New York City to Elsie Hassid and Robert Aries. After their divorce, Elsie married Abe Weg, and the family, including older sister Vivian, moved to Queens, NY. A graduate of Forest Hills High School, Lynn then attended college in Boston, earning a B.A. degree, and later earned a certificate in French studies from the Sorbonne University in France.

Despite her lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder, Lynn was fortunate to work for many years at the Boston University College of Basic Studies, assisting professors and other educators. During her struggles with mental illness, Lynn’s fiercest allies were her co-workers and many of those professors and educators whose work was affected by her absences. The University also supported Lynn during her struggles with mental illness by maintaining her job throughout the years, which was instrumental in getting her back on her feet, sometimes literally. Lynn loved the energy she felt from the student presence on campus and having work to do was always her best medicine.

Lynn is survived by her brother, Stu Weg, and his wife, Judy Roth, and many dear cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 12:30pm at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline with interment to follow in West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances of Lynn may be made to the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health (www.mamh.org) and the American Kidney Fund (www. kidneyfund.org).
