A modern classic in Lexington

- By Miriam Schwartz

Lexington is a showcase for historically significant Federal, Victorian, Colonial, and of course, mid-century modern homes.

While 16 Meriam Street fits right in with its antique neighbors, the Victorian-style home was built in 2008. Its new owners will get to enjoy its traditional (and downright delightful) curb appeal alongside modern creature comforts and what may possibly be one of the best backyards in all of Lexington (hint: there’s a pool.)

But even though the home itself isn’t historic, the land it occupies very much is — it’s the site where Samuel Adams uttered the famous “What a glorious morning for America” to John Hancock on April 19, 1775. A plaque commemorating the moment was commissioned and then carved in 1886. Today, it’s nestled in the fieldstone wall bordering the property.

Inside, the home stretches over more than 9,400 square feet, with six bedrooms and gathering spaces for hosting gatherings big and small. Starting with a grand foyer, elegant dining and living rooms, and a crisp, modern kitchen with custom cabinetry, an array of eat-in options, and a chef-friendly design.

Retreat to the luxurious primary suite, where a spacious walk-in closet, balcony, and spa-like bathroom await. With a glass-topped dual sink vanity, fireplace, tiled shower, and giant tub, this sanctuary offers the perfect escape. But the amenities don’t end there. The home also boasts an office, movie theater, gym, and wine cellar.

Venture outside to your own backyard retreat where a gazebo leads to a heated saltwater lap pool, pergolacovered patio, and outdoor kitchen.

Open house hours are Sunday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

On the market for $6,500,000, the sale of the property is represented by Danielle Fleming with MA Properties, 617-997-9145. Home Showcase: Address: 16 Meriam Street, Lexington, MA 02420
