DAVIS, Richard E.

-

Of Marshfield, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 24, 2022. Rich was proud of his storied career in the Massachusetts State Police. He was often recognized by several political figures and community leaders for his hard work. He was a member of the first State Police scuba diving team and sniper team, later becoming an instructor. Rich was also a member of the first airport bomb squad in the country. He was known for his work on the Eastern Airlines skyjacking investigation of 1970. Rich was able to share the stories of this investigation with the Boston Globe in 2020. After a mandatory retirement from the State Police at age 50, Rich became a Federal Sky Marshal for the FAA. Rich was able to travel the world while keeping civilians safe. His grandchildren remember his stories of these assignments and he could always be counted on for a memory of a faraway place. He then became the TSA Field Canine Coordinator for the bomb dogs in New England. In his youth, drum corps was a large part of Rich’s life. It was here that he met his late wife, Rita and made several lifelong friends. Rich was a founding member of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and was the corps’ first acting president. Rich was truly a one of a kind man. He garnered the respect and admiration of everyone he met. Although he was a brave and dedicated State Trooper and Air Marshal, his family will also remember him for the endless love, care, and humor that he provided. He was a great man and will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Rich was predeceased by his wife, Rita; and his brothers, Jack and Tom. He is survived by his brother, Ed and his wife, Bonnie of Florida; his children, Katie Haley and husband, Don of Kingston, Rich Davis and wife, Tiffany of Connecticut, Matthew Davis and Michael Davis, both of Marshfield. Rich also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Erin, Maura, Margaret, Luke, Olivia, and Macklin.
