Musician and Cancer Survivor

Age 75, of Durham, NH, dedicated husband, father of two, and friend of many, died October 18, 2022. After graduating from Masconomet High School in Topsfield, MA, Greg attended Northeaste­rn University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineerin­g. During his time at Northeaste­rn, he met his future wife, Janet (Coletta) Vrettos, and after graduation served in the Massachuse­tts National Guard.

Greg worked as an electrical engineer at Western Electric, Andover, MA, Bose Corporatio­n, Framingham, MA, Teradyne Inc. in Waltham, MA, and Essex Junction, VT.

A lifelong sports car enthusiast and musician, Greg continued to enjoy racing, working on cars, and playing in bands after his retirement in Durham, NH. His group, The Greg Vrettos Trio, played throughout the Portsmouth, NH area. He was also a member of the Community Church of Durham.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janet (Coletta) Vrettos of Durham, two children, Damon Vrettos of Holliston, MA, and Adrienne Vrettos Salane and her husband Jeff Salane of Brooklyn, two grandchild­ren, his brother, Herbert Vrettos (Dorrie), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Greg lived with cancer for 18 years and was grateful and proud to participat­e in lung cancer trials at Mass General Hospital where his medical data could be used in creating medicines to help others. He was always open to speaking with recently diagnosed lung cancer patients to give them the hope for a full life.

Visiting Hours: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5th, at 1 p.m., at the Community Church of Durham, 17 Main Street, Durham, NH.
