WEYLMAN, Walther T. “Bud”

-

Caring and modest, Walther “Bud” Weylman died on October 26, 2022, after an extended struggle with stomach cancer and dementia. Bud was born in 1929 and raised in Vineland, New Jersey. He graduated from high school at age 16 and continued on to study at his beloved Dickinson College and Jefferson Medical College, serving in the US Navy during peacetime. He completed his residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1960, he married Mary Jean Mahler and they thrived in a life together in Winchester, MA. He practiced for over 40 years with L&M Radiology of Andover, with dear colleagues. He volunteered in service to the Winchester Unitarian Society and the Winchester Boat Club and was known for his diplomacy. After Jeannie’s death in 2013, he built a great friendship and companionship with Marion Crandall, enjoying Horn Pond birds and the Maine ocean. Ever an introvert, he preferred to “putter” on the sidelines at a workbench. As a child of the Depression, he never wasted resources, preferring secondhand books, repairing discarded bicycles, and tinkering with used vacuum cleaners. He had a quiet, corny sense of playfulness, laughing at himself and joining the dance floor for “YMCA” at wedding receptions. Throughout his life, he championed his four children, Bill (Chris), Janet Kepes (Andy), Laura Turner (Dave) and Sally (Mike). And he lit up in his 25 years as “Bumper,” grandfather to a lively cluster of ten, Kelsey, Jenna, Hannah, Nichol, Anna, Ben, Lauren, Tyler, Alex, and Sammy. Nearly all who encountered him savored his wry intelligence and understated charm. The world will miss him. Services will be held on Saturday November 19, 2022, at 2:00pm, at the Winchester Unitarian Society, 478 Main Street, Winchester MA. In lieu of flowers, we encourage friends, so inclined, to channel Bud’s humble generosity and donate to a charity of your choice in his honor.
