Humphries’s medal marks milestone

Kaillie Humphries of the United States got a milestone medal, winning a World Cup women’s monobob race in Altenberg, Germany, for the 100th top-three finish of her career in major internatio­nal competitio­n. Humphries used a blazing second run to finish two heats in 1 minute, 57.92 seconds. Humphries has won 70 medals in two-woman bobsled races; 60 in World Cups, seven at the world championsh­ips, and three at the Olympics. She’s won 11 medals in monobob events — including Olympic gold at Beijing last year — plus 10 on the North American Cup circuit and nine in team competitio­ns . . . Skier Federica Brignone wona women’s World Cup super-G in St. Anton, Austria, for the 2020 overall champion’s first victory this season in a race that Mikaela Shiffrin skipped. Brignone mastered a course shortened because of heavy overnight snowfall and triumphed after Italian teammate Sofia Goggia skied faster but went out following a nasty crash. Shiffrin was sitting out this weekend’s speed races after completing a block of seven tech races within 15 days. Shiffrin is expected back Friday for a super-G in Cortina, aiming for a record-setting 83rd women’s World Cup win to break a tie with Lindsey Vonn ... Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won Switzerlan­d’s men’s marquee World Cup race in Wengen 0.88 seconds for his fourth win in six downhills this season . . . Max Langenhan of Germany pulled off a big comeback to win a World Cup men’s singles luge race in Latvia, rallying from 12th place after the first of two heats. Langenhan had the fastest time in the second heat and finished in 1:37.588.
