ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
Emma Reilly
Division 1: Andover
The senior finished out her career as one of the storied program’s best ever. The two-time state champion and Merrimack Valley MVP finished the season with 17 goals and 20 assists, totaling 126 career points. She'll attend Columbia.
Maggie Sturgis
Division 2: Masconomet
One of the North Shore’s most prolific players, the senior scored 46 goals and 12 assists in an 18-1-2 season, finishing with 179 career points. A two-time Northeastern Conference Player of the Year, she will play for Holy Cross.
Maggie Driscoll
Division 3: Watertown
The BU-bound Driscoll finished her senior season with 14 goals and 17 assists. She shared Middlesex Freedom MVP honors with teammate Liz Loftus in a 22-0 season as the Raiders repeated as state champions, the program’s 20th overall.
Megan Smith
Division 4: Joseph Case
The junior isn’t just tops in her class, but she’s also tops in scoring for the Cardinals. She set Case’s scoring record with 36 goals and 17 assists. The South Coast Conference MVP led her team to a 20-2 record and the state quarterfinals.
ALL-SCHOLASTICS Izzy Adams
Walpole, sophomore
Adams had a standout sophomore year for the Porkers, scoring 21 goals and adding 13 assists in their 21-2 season. A Bay State Conference All-Star, she also is the starting point guard for the girls’ basketball team.
Kerin Birch
Walpole, junior
The Bay State Conference MVP and honor roll student was the Porkers’ most dynamic player, with 16 goals and 18 assists. She was named to the NFHCA All-Region team and will continue her career at Quinnipiac.
Aria Caputo
Gloucester, senior
The senior captain led the Fishermen to a 16-2-3 season and the Division 3 state semifinals. A key twoway midfielder and 2022 USA Field Hockey NEXUS CAMP invitee, she played in every minute of every game over her four years.
Kaitlyn Carney
Franklin, senior
The captain wrapped up her fouryear varsity career having amassed 104 goals and 66 assists. The 2019 and 2021 Hockomock League Player of the Year, she again led the Panthers to a league title. She will play lacrosse at James Madison.
Maddy Clark
Walpole, senior
The Porkers’ standout goaltender backstopped the team to consecutive Division 1 state title game appearances and three Bay State titles. A USA Field Hockey U16 Nexus Championship selection last year, she will play for Holy Cross.
Shaw Downing
Franklin, senior
A steady and strong team captain, Downing had 14 goals and nine assists during the Panthers’ 18-2-1 season. The two-time Hockomock League All-Star is vice president of her class and will pursue pre-veterinary studies in college.
Molly Driscoll
Watertown, junior
The three-sport athlete had a 41goal, 12-assist season for the Division 3 state champions. So far in her career, she has 89 goals and 48 assists (despite the limited 2020 season) and is a three-time Middlesex League All-Star.
Toni Freitas
Durfee, junior
In an all-time best year for Durfee field hockey, Freitas was a standout with 18 goals and 10 assists. She was named a Southeastern Conference All-Star in the team’s 12-4-3 season. A high honor roll student, she also plays tennis.
Julia Graves
Masconomet, senior
Graves captained a Masconomet team that hasn’t lost a regular season game in two seasons. She had 25 points off 14 goals and 11 assists, and was a multi-time Northeastern Conference All-Star. She will play at UNH this fall.
Caroline Harvey
Dover-Sherborn, senior
The Raiders’ goalie had 12 shutouts this season, leading her team to a 16-2-4 record and the Division 3 state semifinal. A Tri-Valley League All-Star and her team’s MVP, she is headed to Endicott College to play field hockey.
Lindsey Jacobs
Walpole, senior
The Porkers’ senior captain was key at center back in their 20-2 season. She had nine goals and six assists, and coach Jen Quinn credited her with always being ‘‘smart, skilled and steady.’’ She is committed to play at Bentley.
Elizabeth Loftus
Watertown, senior
A three-year captain, the Middlesex Freedom co-MVP was a defensive stalwart and led the undefeated Raiders to the Division 3 state title, allowing just one goal all season. Loftus graduates with 57 goals and 59 assists. She'll attend Brown.
Rose MacLean
Andover, senior
The midfielder compiled 12 assists and five defensive saves and was a key contributor as the Golden Warriors won their second straight D1 crown. The high honors student is a three-sport captain in field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse.
Reagan Malo
Lincoln-Sudbury, senior
A multiple-time Dual County AllStar, she 17 goals and 13 assists for the Warriors (11-5-1) and was named to the NFHCA’s all region team and national academic squad. Malo is committed to play for Tufts next year.
Katherine Purcell
Danvers, senior
Purcell proved her mettle at both ends of the field, turning in a 12goal, eight-assist season and serving as defensive cornerstone for the Falcons in their run to the Division 2 semifinals. The senior captain is a Northeastern Conference All-Star.
Lilly Ragusa
Newburyport, senior
The Cape Ann League Player of the Year led her team to a Division 3 semifinal berth in her second season as team captain. A Tufts commit, Ragusa is Student Council president and plays club field hockey with Seacoast United.
Remore Serra
Chelmsford, senior
Serra ends her career with 28 goals and 55 assists and three years of team MVP honors. The senior captain led the Lions to a 13-4 mark with 14 goals and 28 assists. She will play field hockey at UMass Amherst.
Emily Souke
Sandwich, senior
A prolific scorer who netted 26 goals this fall, the senior captain led the Blue Knights to their second straight Division 3 title game. She finished her career with 44 goals and 17 assists. Souke will study communications in college.
Hannah Ward
Lexington, junior
She accumulated 14 goals and 13 assists and collected Middlesex Liberty MVP honors. The UMass Amherst commit and National Honor Society student has competed with Canada’s U17 and U18 Junior Women’s National squads.
Lexi Yost
Joseph Case, senior
The senior captain led the Cardinals to a 19-2 record, collecting 20 goals and 15 assists. She finished her career with 50 goals. The class secretary and two-time South Coast All-Star is a versatile athlete who will row at Sacred Heart University. COACHES OF THE YEAR
Nicki Henrique
Division 1: Durfee
Her 12-3-3 squad with unmatched chemistry and a no-quit mentality recorded nine shutouts and won the school’s first outright Southeast title. “They truly just gave all they had every single game,’’ said the 10year coach, a 2007 Case graduate.
Kristen McCarthy
Division 2: Danvers
In season two, the 2016 grad directed the Falcons (16-3-3) to the D2 semifinals. ‘‘Seniors through sophomores, we had group full of girls that were willing to work to that final whistle,’’ said the NEC Coach of the Year.
Shannon Haley
Division 3: Newburyport
As interim coach, the Pentucket (2012) and Bates grad (‘16) led the Clippers (13-4-2) to the program’s first state semifinal. “While it was a talented group, their sportsmanship, teamwork, and class made the coaches so proud,” Haley said.

Division 4: Joseph Case
The Cardinals (20-2) made a run to the Division 4 quarterfinals in a historic season under the eighthyear coach. “They had a tight bond . . . they craved winning and it paid off,” said Martel, a New Bedford High graduate (2000).
