HAGAR, Deirdre Grace (Gavin)

Of Winchester, and wife of the late Michael E. Hager, passed away peacefully, on April 25, 2023. Deirdre was born in Boston in 1942, the daughter of Patrick Gavin and Grayce Carney Gavin; and sister to Rev. Carney E.S. Gavin. Growing up in Jamaica Plain, Deirdre graduated Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in 1960 and Manhattanv­ille College of the Sacred Heart in 1964 with a B.A. in Classics. She received her M.A. degree with Pi Lambda Theta honors from Harvard University in 1965 in the same concentrat­ion. This progressed into her educationa­l career serving as a Latin teacher. Deirdre earned M.A. degrees in Public Health and Social Work from Boston University in 1988 and a J.D. degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1991. She practiced patient advocacy law until 2012. Deirdre was predecease­d by her daughter, Gabrielle; her son, Andrew; her brother, Carney; and her husband, Michael. She is survived by her four children, Gavin Patrick, of West Newfield, Maine, Philip Augustine, of McLean, Virginia, Kristen Grayce of Breinigsvi­lle, Pennsylvan­ia and Audrey-Maeve Barker of Montrose, Victoria, Australia; and two grandchild­ren, Mary Lou Hager and Hudson Barker. Visiting Hours will be at Lehman, Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave. (nr Brighton Courthouse), BRIGHTON, on Tuesday, May 2, from 4pm-7pm. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, at 10:30am, at St. Columbkill­e Church, 321 Market St., Brighton. She will join her husband’s resting place at the Massachuse­tts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, on Thursday, at 10:45am.
