WESTHAVER, Cookie (Carroll)

-

Cookie (Carroll) Westhaver, officially Ethel Mae Westhaver (don’t ever call her that), of South Boston, passed away on April 27, 2023, after an incredibly hard fought, multi-year battle with metastatic anaplastic thyroid cancer. That cancer ain’t no joke, just google it. She was unbelievably resilient, one tough Southie broad through and through. Cookie was the wife of the late Ed Westhaver; and mother of Ken, Ed and his wife Susan, Julie and her husband Tommy, and Amy and her wife Paige. She was nana to Daniel, Matthew, Gavin, Roz, and Cole. Cookie is also survived by her brother, Gene; and sister Patsy. Cookie was born and raised in South Boston on I and 8th. She was the youngest daughter of Patrick and Margaret (Doyle) Carroll in your typical large Irish Catholic family. She went to Gate of Heaven and got married at there in 1961. After marriage, Cookie and Ed bought a nice single family up the point in Southie on East Third and had 4 kids (not necessarily that order). Cookie and Ed were married until 1997, when he passed away of kidney cancer.

Cookie could have had any career she wanted and worked in the banquet waitressing business. She bopped around a few places but landed at the Marriott Long Wharf for over 25 years, where she ran the show with her bestie, Jackie, and eventually retired. Cookie really only loved a few things in life, and let’s put them in honest order: cigarettes, coffee, Twin Rivers, her bestie, Jackie, and everything else really just doesn’t even come close. Visitation in the O’Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON, on Tuesday, May 2nd, from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass in Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth Street, South Boston, on Wednesday, May 3rd at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment St Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
