Roma wins first women’s Serie A crown

Roma won its first Serie A women’s soccer title in Rome, ending Juventus’s long reign. Roma beat Fiorentina, 2-1, in front of more than 2,700 fans at home to secure the crown after five straight league titles for Juventus. The Gialloross­e are on course for a treble of trophies. They face Juventus in the Italian Cup final on June 4 and already own the Italian Super Cup, won in November . . . Karim Benzema scored a first-half hat trick to lead Real Madrid to a 4-2 win over Almeria in a men’s Spanish league game in Barcelona that included a knee injury scare for forward Vinícius Júnior. The comfortabl­e win over Almeria ensured Madrid remained in second place, while Barcelona maintained its commanding 11-point lead after beating nine-man Real Betis, 4-0. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said Vinícius would likely be good to go . . . Urawa Reds came back and held on against Al-Hilal to return to Japan with a 1-1 draw after the first leg of the men’s Asian Champions League final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Salem Al-Dawsari opened the scoring for four-time champion Al-Hilal in a dominant first half, but a fortuitous equalizer by Shinzo Koroki in the second half gave the Japanese visitors the advantage going into the return match next weekend.
