Dolphins receiver Davis carted off field, game called

-

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Daewood Davis was carted off the field in an immobilized position after a collision in the fourth quarter of a preseason game against the Jaguars on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Fla.

Davis was taken to a hospital for evaluation, the Dolphins said, adding that he was conscious and had movement in all his extremities.

Players from both teams came onto the field as Davis laid face-down on the turf for several minutes. After he was carted off, coaches agreed to stop the game with 8:32 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Jaguars leading 31-18.

Jacobs returns to Raiders

Josh Jacobs took to social media Saturday to say, “I’m back,” after agreeing to a one-year deal to play for the Raiders this season.

The contract is worth up to $12 million, a person with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team announced that Jacobs signed but did not provide details on the terms.

Jacobs, who last season led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards, had been expected to sign rather than sit out the season and forfeit his salary. Las Vegas coach Josh McDaniels indicated during training camp that Jacobs likely would receive a similar workload as last season, when he had nearly 400 touches between rushing and receiving.

Rodgers makes Jets debut

Aaron Rodgers threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson to cap the second and final series of his preseason debut with the Jets, helping his new squad to a 32-24 victory over the Giants in the Meadowlands.

After completing three of his five passes for 23 yards on his first drive, Rodgers completed a 10-yard quick toss to Mecole Hardman. He followed with a perfectly placed pass to Wilson in the front left corner of the end zone with 8:23 left in the opening quarter that gave the Jets a 7-0 lead.

That was it for Rodgers, who went 5 for 8 for 47 yards and the TD before being replaced by Zach Wilson.

Tommy DeVito was 19 of 29 for 210 yards and a score, and Graham Gano

kicked three field goals for the Giants.

Allen, Bills look sharp

Quarterback Josh Allen warmed up for the regular season by leading a scoring drive and the Buffalo Bills took a 24-21 win at the Chicago Bears.

Allen completed 5 of 7 passes for 49 yards on Buffalo’s first possession. He left the game after Damien Harris’s 2yard touchdown run up the middle ended the 72-yard drive. Kyle Allen

then took over and made a strong statement to win the backup job over Matt Barkley — leading the Bills on three scoring drives, including a 29-yard TD pass to Quintin Morris for a 14-3 lead.

Safety Damar Hamlin had four tackles as he continued his Bills comeback.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields played three drives in his second preseason appearance. On the final one, he completed a 40-yard pass to wide receiver DJ Moore. Fields finished 2 of 6 for 51 yards, and also ran for 16 yards.

Mixed bag for Watson

Deshaun Watson was part of a fumbled handoff that ended one drive against Kansas City, then threw two incompletions while going three-and-out on the next. But the Browns quarterback settled down, scoring touchdowns on his next two drives, before the host Chiefs rallied behind a host of backups for a 33-32 victory.

Watson finished 5 of 10 for 92 yards with a TD pass to David Njoku. Otherwise, both teams rested many of their stars, such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for Kansas City, and Myles Garrett for Cleveland.

Love ready for season

Jordan Love threw a touchdown pass to Christian Watson in his third and final series of the day as the host Green Bay Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 19-15. Love went 9 of 15 for 63 yards and had three carries for 21 yards. The Seahawks rested Geno

Smith and most of their starters on both sides of the ball. Backup quarterback Drew Lock was 16 of 25 for 150 yards with a touchdown pass . . . Jake Browning strengthened his case to back up Joe Burrow, and potentially start Week 1 for the Bengals if their franchise quarterback is not ready. Browning was a 6 of 6 for 42 yards and a TD pass to Andre Iosivas in Cincinnati's 21-19 loss to the Commanders in Washington. . . The Atlanta Falcons released offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield, a third-round draft pick in 2021 who couldn’t win a job this preseason as a swing tackle. He started 16 games at left guard as a rookie but missed all of last season because of a back injury.
