Of Lexington, MA, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024, at 100 years of age. She was born to Clement and Helen Stanton Redmond on September 27, 1923, in Belmont, MA. She leaves her children, Lynda, Fran, Ursula, and Walter H. Pennell; daughter-in-law Josephine Babiarz; and grandchild­ren, Emile and Ashly Culver, and Jackie Pennell. She was predecease­d by her husband, Walter; brother John; and sisters, Betty, Patricia Redmond, and Ursula McLaughlin.

Helen was married to Walter F. Pennell for 56 years, until he died in 2001. They first settled in Arlington, and eventually moved to Lexington for the remainder of their lives. Initially a housewife, she later assisted her husband in his Arlington real estate company, providing insurance to customers. Helen led a fulfilling and creative life, leaving a legacy of family, music, and artistic endeavors. She was a woman of many talents and hobbies and could be seen knitting and painting throughout her life. She also shared her beautiful voice, accompanie­d on the piano by her husband, playing 1940s wartime songs.

Summer vacations were spent with her children and friends at Lake Winnipesau­kee, NH and Long Lake, ME. She opened her home to her children’s friends, who visited to relax, play music, and socialize after school. Later in life, Helen enjoyed her beloved grandchild­ren and always encouraged their singing, piano, and art interests.

Helen was a strong, independen­t, resilient woman not deterred by early hardships. She loved her family and provided helpful guidance to all. She never had a harsh word for strangers or friends, accepting and welcoming them to her home. She was much loved by those who knew her and will be forever remembered for her generosity and enduring impact.

A private Funeral was held on April 1, 2024.
