The Cal­houn Recre­ation Depart­ment is hold­ing Ad­ven­ture Sum­mer Camp and reg­is­tra­tion is now open. There are four ses­sions for kids 8-12 years old: June 6-10, June 13-17, June 20-24 and July 18-22. There are two ses­sions for kids 1214: June 27-29 and July 25-27. Par­tic­i­pants will go on a trip daily in th­ese camps. For the 8-12 year olds, the camp is de­signed to do ac­tiv­i­ties out­side, fun ed­u­ca­tional trips, and try­ing new things. The camp for 12-14 year olds is for the ad­ven­tur­ous; there will be white wa­ter raft­ing, zip lin­ing and in­door rock climb­ing. Reg­is­tra­tion dead­line is the Tues­day be­fore each ses­sion. The Mil­i­tary Or­der of the Pur­ple Heart Rome Chap­ter 525, meets the first Mon­day of the month ex­cept hol­i­days at the Rome Na­tion Guard Ar­mory lo­cated at 340 Wil­shire Road at 6:00 P M. All vet­er­ans who have been awarded the Pur­ple Heart are el­i­gi­ble for mem­ber­ship and are in­vited to join. Sum­mer 2016 Driver’s Ed­u­ca­tion cour­ses will be of­fered by the Gor­don County Schools at Gor­don Cen­tral High School and Sono­rav­ille High School. Classes will take place at Gor­don Cen­tral High School on June 13, 14, 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. un­til 4 p.m. each day. Classes at Sono­rav­ille High School will take place on June 27, 28, 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. un­til 4 p.m. each day. A break will be taken at noon each day. In­struc­tors ask for stu­dents to bring pa­per and a pen­cil or pen to each class; along with their learner’s per­mit. Classes are open to any stu­dent, re­gard­less of where they at­tend school, as long as they have their learner’s per­mit. The cost for the Driver’s Ed­u­ca­tion course is $250. A non­re­fund­able de­posit of $50 must be sub­mit­ted with ap­pli­ca­tion, and ap­pli­ca­tions can be found on­line at www. or at either Gor­don Cen­tral or Sono­rav­ille High Schools. The Cal­houn Hous­ing Au­thor­ity Board of Com­mis­sion­ers meet on the fourth Wed­nes­day of each month for the reg­u­lar called Board Meet­ings at 12:00 p.m. Spe­cial Board meet­ings will be ad­ver­tised in ad­vance. All meet­ings are held at 607 Oothcalooga St. Cal­houn, Ge­or­gia. The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend. Call to ver­ify a meet­ing is sched­ule prior to at­tend­ing.

The Down­town De­pot Farm­ers Mar­ket be­gins Mon­day, May 16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. It’s free for ven­dors and it will be held ev­ery Mon­day through­out the sum­mer.

Cal­houn City Schools Com­mu­nity Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­gram is of­fer­ing Sum­mer Fun this year with many dif­fer­ent camps for kids aged pre-k through 8th grade.

To reg­is­ter, do so and pay on­line at­houn­ un­der de­part­ments/Com­mu­nity Ed­u­ca­tion or sub­mit reg­is­tra­tion form with pay­ment to the Com­mu­nity Ed­u­ca­tion Of­fice at 380 Bar­rett Rd. Reg­u­lar reg­is­tra­tion for ALL camps ends the Thurs­day pre­ced­ing each camp week. A $10 late fee will be ap­plied to all campers who do not meet the reg­u­lar reg­is­tra­tion dead­line.
