The Calhoun Recreation Department is holding Adventure Summer Camp and registration is now open. There are four sessions for kids 8-12 years old: June 6-10, June 13-17, June 20-24 and July 18-22. There are two sessions for kids 1214: June 27-29 and July 25-27. Participants will go on a trip daily in these camps. For the 8-12 year olds, the camp is designed to do activities outside, fun educational trips, and trying new things. The camp for 12-14 year olds is for the adventurous; there will be white water rafting, zip lining and indoor rock climbing. Registration deadline is the Tuesday before each session. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Rome Chapter 525, meets the first Monday of the month except holidays at the Rome Nation Guard Armory located at 340 Wilshire Road at 6:00 P M. Summer 2016 Driver’s Education courses will be offered by the Gordon County Schools at Gordon Central High School and Sonoraville High School. Classes will take place at Gordon Central High School on June 13, 14, 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Classes at Sonoraville High School will take place on June 27, 28, 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. A break will be taken at noon each day. Instructors ask for students to bring paper and a pencil or pen to each class; along with their learner’s permit. Classes are open to any student, regardless of where they attend school, as long as they have their learner’s permit. The cost for the Driver’s Education course is $250. A nonrefundable deposit of $50 must be submitted with application, and applications can be found online at www. gcbe.org or at either Gordon Central or Sonoraville High Schools. The Calhoun Housing Authority Board of Commissioners meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month for the regular called Board Meetings at 12:00 p.m. Special Board meetings will be advertised in advance. All meetings are held at 607 Oothcalooga St. Calhoun, Georgia. The public is invited to attend. Call to verify a meeting is schedule prior to attending.
The Downtown Depot Farmers Market begins Monday, May 16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. It’s free for vendors and it will be held every Monday throughout the summer.
Calhoun City Schools Community Education Program is offering Summer Fun this year with many different camps for kids aged pre-k through 8th grade.
To register, do so and pay online at www.calhounschools.org under departments/Community Education or submit registration form with payment to the Community Education Office at 380 Barrett Rd. Regular registration for ALL camps ends the Thursday preceding each camp week. A $10 late fee will be applied to all campers who do not meet the regular registration deadline.
