Paddle Georgia Street Party June 22 in Downtown Calhoun to feature music, food and Canoe Tug-O-Wars
On Wednesday, June 22, Paddle Georgia is invading downtown Calhoun.
The invasion will feature a street party at the Calhoun Depot with music, food, canoe and kayak rides and canoe tug- o- wars. Festivities begin at 5: 30 p. m. The event is open to the public.
The party is part of Georgia River Network’s annual Paddle Georgia taking place June 18- 24 on the Conasauga and Oostanaula rivers. More than 400 people are expected for the 7day, 103- mile canoe and kayak adventure that begins near Chatsworth and ends in downtown Rome.
Canoe tug- o- wars in a massive portable pool provided by event sponsor Cedar Creek Park & Outdoor Center in Cave Spring will highlight the Calhoun street party. In these events two canoes are tied end- to- end and three- person, co- ed teams try to paddle pull their opponents across the pool.
A double- elimination tournament will determine the tug champions. Registration for the tug- o- wars is $ 25 for each four- person team. Each team must include at least one woman. All proceeds will benefit New Echota Rivers Alliance, a Calhoun- based citizen group working to protect the Coosawattee, Conasauga and Oostanaula rivers.
