United Way’s Young Leaders Society to host first Lunch with Leaders event
The United Way of Gordon County’s recently created Young Leaders Society is hosting its first Lunch with Leaders Event on Friday, Aug. 12, from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Historic Depot in downtown Calhoun.
The society was created with optimistic views that would bring a diverse group of young leaders together through partnerships, volunteerism and philanthropic service. “Young Leaders Society was created in January,” said Ashley L. Goble, director of Communications and Community Involvement for the United Way of Gordon County. “It is a giving society, so to qualify for Young Leaders Society membership, individuals must be at least 21 and not older than 45, and willing to make an annual investment of $240 to YLS. These funds will accumulate to the overall annual United Way fundraising campaign, beginning with the Unity Run in September, which is the kickoff event. Membership is open to couples as well as individuals; YLS members will be expected to volunteer 20 hours of community service over the course of the year. Our calendar is being finalized as we speak and we are going to announce what opportunities are available.”
The kickoff event for the YLS is the Lunch with Leaders event. “Our Lunch with Leaders program provides members with a positive learning experience while allowing members to interact with professional leaders in the community,” said Goble. “Our first speaker for our Lunch with Leaders series is Mr. Brian Carson, Mohawk Industries President of North American Flooring.”
“We are reaching out to young leaders in our area because we want these folks to be able to understand the needs in our community. I think it is important for people in Calhoun/Gordon County to realize how their United Way dollars really reach our agencies.”
Goble hopes the YLS will continue to grow and develop young leaders. “We believe that the launch of this giving society is essential to the continued growth and development of young professionals in our Calhoun/ Gordon County community,” said Goble. “This is an opportunity to be a part of a network of rapidly growing diverse professionals in Gordon County. During the remainder of 2016, we are striving to have events that will be fun, educational, and will allow opportunity for networking with other young professionals in our community. These opportunities will allow prospective members to interact with our 19 partner agencies and business leaders in our area.”
