GEM Theatre brings Epic Lip Sync Battle to town

With the popularity of lip sync battles on social media and the Spike Channel’s “Lip Sync Battle” which pits A-list celebrities against each other in a lip sync contest, the GEM Theatre will be holding “Calhoun’s Epic Lip Sync Battle” at the GEM Theatre, located on North Wall Street in downtown Calhoun on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Theatre Manager and Marketing Director Kim Brazell says the GEM is looking for individuals, duos and groups that want to participate in the contest.

“This is an opportunity for those who enjoy karaoke or the lip sync show on TV to compete to win a great prize,” said Brazell.

The prize is a $300 VISA gift card.

“We are trying to bring different entertainment to town,” said Brazell. “People are enjoying lip sync contests so much on social media and on TV. This offers variety to the entertainment of our community.”

A single or due can enter the contest for $30; groups are $50. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Aug. 10. Contest rules can be found on the GEM Theatre’s Facebook page, Friends of Calhoun’s GEM Theatre.

“The performances must be clean,” said Brazell. “This is a family show. If you are creative, fun, energetic and love the spotlight, we encourage you to sign up.”
