GEM brings two popular acts back to Calhoun
Back by popular demand, the GEM Theatre is bringing country music artist Glen Templeton and comedian James Gregory back to Calhoun for performances in August and September.
Templeton will be performing at the GEM on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. An up-andcoming country singer with a reputation as one of the best singersongwriters to play the local saloons and bars of Nashville, Templeton was personally picked in 2008 by the daughter’s of country music legend Conway Twitty to portray their father in a touring musical tribute. With more than 20,000 hopefuls auditioning for the part, Twitty’s daughters felt they had finally found a voice capable of conveying many of the same qualities their father had.
“One of the biggest thrills of my life was performing the inaugural show of the musical,” said Templeton. “I was singing his songs and hearing people react to them the way they must have reacted to him. In a way, it was like getting a chance to walk in the shoes of one of my musical heroes.”
Templeton has toured across the country, performing on tour with the late George Jones in 2009, and has appeared on CMT, The Grand Ole Opry and The Ryman, among others.
Comedian James Gregory, known as “The Funniest Man in America,” will be performing at the GEM on Saturday, Sept. 17. The show runs from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m.
Gregory has been entertaining his fans for more than two decades. Much of his humor is centered on life observations, and political correctness is not his style, with Gregory delighting in poking fun at everyone from sensitive parents to environmentalists. Gregory’s one- man show, “Grease, Gravy & John Wayne’s Momma” was sponsored by HBO and featured at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. In addition, he is best known for his first album and book, “It Could be a Law, I Don’t Know.” Gregory is also featured on more than 200 radio shows during morning and afternoon drive times throughout the country.
