The following events are set for the Calhoun and Gordon County arts community:

Calhoun City Schools Community Education Program is offering Summer Fun this year with many different camps for kids aged pre-k through 8th grade. To register, do so and pay online at www.calhounsch­ools. org under department­s/ Community Education or submit registrati­on form with payment to the Community Education Office at 380 Barrett Rd. Regular registrati­on for ALL camps ends the Thursday preceding each camp week. A $10 late fee will be applied to all campers who do not meet the regular registrati­on deadline. The GEM Theatre’s summer movie series just got a little better! When you come to a movie at Calhoun’s GEM Theatre this summer, check-in on Facebook and receive a free bag of popcorn! Just show your check-in to our cashier and we will do the rest. One check-in per person please! The $5 Friday Night Flicks at the GEM Theatre include everything from popular ‘ 80’s films to current releases will be shown throughout the summer. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. each Friday with the movie beginning at 7 p.m. All films are $5 per person. July 1 – Furious 7; July 15 – The Avengers; July 22 – ET; July 29 – Zootopia and Aug. 5 – Batman vs. Superman. Kids’ Summer Movie Series at the GEM. The GEM Theatre, located at 114 North Wall Street in Calhoun, is excited to continue offering $3 movies for children and their parents throughout the summer with the Kids’ Summer Movie Series. On Thursday, June 23, the beloved Disney film, “Mary Poppins” will be shown at 10:30 a.m. Toy Story will show on the GEM screen on Thursday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. On July 14, Inside Out will be played at 10:30 a.m. The Good Dinosaur is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. On Thursday, July 28, Minions will be shown at 10:30 a.m. and it is the only movie that is a free movie. Don't miss the GEM Theatre's Performanc­e Camp's presentati­on of Alice in Wonderland, the musical. It’s going to be a fantastic show! The kids have worked so hard and they are doing a fantastic job! Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. You can purchase them by calling the GEM at 706-6253132 or at the Box Office (Tuesday and Thursday 4-6 p.m.) or at the door on Friday and Saturday. Performanc­es have been set for Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m.!

Harris Arts Center will be exhibiting Symbiosis, a pottery exhibit, through July 22. The public is cordially invited to a drop-in reception for the show on June 26 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. for a meet and greet with the artists, Dan and Mary DeFoor, potters and Ansley Sproull, painter and print maker.

ShugArt Studio will be hosting its fifth annual summer art camp “Hawaiian Summer”. It will consist of two sessions: the first session will start June 7 and the second session will begin July 5. Both learning and fun will come together in this Hawaiian theme art camp. Campers will create a variety of mixed media projects such as: sand art, seashell art, floral designs and much more. The GEM Theatre is pleased to host Calhoun’s Epic Lip Sync Battle on Saturday, Aug. 20 beginning at 7:30 p.m. If you are creative, fun, energetic and love the spotlight, plus want to win a $300 VISA giftcard, thent his event is for you. The GEM Theatre is proud to present for the second time up and coming Country Artist Glen Templeton. Glen will be live on the GEM Stage on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Glen is a multi-talented artist that can sing both classic and contempora­ry country. Don’t miss this great show. The GEM Theatre presents James Gregory, “The Funniest Man in America,” on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25 - $35. The GEM Theatre is pleased to present Grammy Award winning group The SteelDrive­rs in concert on the GEM stage on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The SteelDrive­rs have a realness and rawness to their sound that captures the attention of their audience and doesn’t let go. The band won a GRAMMY for Best Bluegrass Album for The Muscle Shoals Recordings at the 2016 awards.
