Dale Brown

Mr. Joseph Dale Brown, 67, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his home following several months of declining health. He was born in Whitfield County on Feb. 1, 1949, son of the late John Otis and Mary Lucy Hilley Brown.

Dale was a graduate of Calhoun High School, class of 1967, and the University of Georgia. He served in the Army National Guard. He was employed with Mohawk as Credit Manager, and was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters and son- inlaw, Michelle and Justin Childress, and Anna Elizabeth Brown, all of Calhoun; his sister and brother- in- law, Norma and Boyd Highfield of Resaca; grandchild­ren, Malone Grace Childress and Jagger Ridge Childress; nieces, Meredith Highfield Banta, Mackenzie Banta, Melissa Highfield Boyd, and Morgan Leigh Boyd; and a nephew, Tyler Banta.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Joseph Dale Brown were held Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. from Meadowdale Baptist Church, with Dr. Steven Pearson officiatin­g. Music was arranged by Faye and Ron Bentley, and Travis Stephens. Burial followed in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Mark Kelley conducting the committal service. Pallbearer­s serving included Bob Wilson, Kenneth Curtis, Gerald Parks, Terry Burnette, Reed Davis and Mike Adams. Honorary pallbearer­s were the employees of Mohawk Credit Department, and “The Seekers” Sunday School Class of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

The Brown family received friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 20 from 5 until 8 p. m.

Sally Bryant

Mrs. Sally Ramona Bryant, age 71, of Dalton and formerly of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Hamilton Medical Center. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of the Curryville Community. For many years, she was employed at Calhoun Health Care Center and Gordon Health Care. Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Jodie Mann Aker, Sr.; sisters Patricia Aker and Helen Upshaw; brother, Anthony Delancey Aker; and sons William C. Bryant, Jr. and Timmy Bryant.

She is survived by her husband, William C. Bryant, Sr.; children, Cheryl, Michelle, Suzanne, Patricia, O. J. ( Shelly) Bryant, and Jason ( Stephanie) Bryant; stepchildr­en; grandchild­ren, and great grandchild­ren; sisters, Frances Wise, Mamie ( Davis) Griffin, Lavern Orr, Jacqueline ( Claude) Fletcher, and Sheila Edwards; brothers, Preston ( Min. Janie) Aker, Sr., and Wilburn Aker, Jr.; aunt, Jerline Porch; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The service to celebrate the life of Sally Ramona Bryant will be on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1 p. m. at the First Baptist Church, Calhoun, Georgia, 411 College Street, with Minister Jason Bryant, and other ministers officiatin­g. Her remains will lie in state at the church from 11 a. m. until the funeral hour. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
