Calhoun Rotary hosts meeting and discusses Troop 39
Prior to the regular Thursday meeting of the Calhoun Rotary the Chapter Officers met for a business and strategy session. Plans were made to strengthen ties with Rotary Clubs in neighboring areas to promote unity and to possibly partner on fundraising activities. Various suggestions for projects for the upcoming year were discussed.
Dianne Kirby, Membership Development chairperson presented a collection of banners brought back by members of Calhoun’s Rotary Club when they visited other Rotary Clubs. Approximately 60 banners were sewn on a tapestry by Kirby and they are from not only various places in the US, but Europe and Asia, as well. It is a tradition that the visiting Rotarian is presented a banner with the logo of the host club.
Rotarian Charles Prater introduced guest speakers Audie Murphy, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent and scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 39 and Penny Sanders, Cub scoutmaster and venture advisor. They spoke about their troop and pack and the projects they are involved in. They have been building stages, clearing hiking trails and most recently, doing a grounds improvement project at the old Echota Cemetery. Scouting is one of the youth oriented projects the Calhoun Rotary is pleased to support.
Also present was visitor Noland Deas, guest of Rotarian Jim Mathews.
