SONORAVILL­E VOLLEYBALL CAMP

— The Sonoravill­e High School volleyball team will be hosting a camp to teach basic volleyball skills July 28-30 from 4-5:30 p.m. each day at the Sonoravill­e Recreation Department Gym. The camp is for 3rd-8th graders and the cost is $25 per athlete. All campers will receive a Sonoravill­e High volleyball t-shirt and prizes will be awarded to top campers. CALHOUN RECREATION DEPARTMENT COMPETITIV­E SOCCER LEAGUE

— This Fall, the Calhoun Recreation Department will be starting a competitiv­e soccer league for U-14, U-16 and U-19. Form your team and sign up through the Calhoun Recreation Department. Sign-ups are from July 11-Aug. 21. There will be an informatio­n session for anybody interested Wednesday, July 16 at 6 p.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department Gym. We will discuss general rules and bylaws, cost and how the season will be set up. This Fall we will also be starting Adult Soccer. You must be 18 and older. There will be a men’s, women’s and co-ed divisions. Cost will be $350 per team. Registrati­on is open from Monday, July 14 through Saturday, August 9. Registrati­on for Tackle Football will be $50; Flag Football will be $35. Age control date is September 1, 2014. CALHOUN BEAST TRYOUTS

— The Calhoun Beast baseball team will hold open tryouts Aug. 3. This tryout is for upcoming 10-yearolds. The team will play a limited fall and a full spring schedule based out of Calhoun. If interested tryouts will be Aug. 3 from 2-5 p.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department Buford Field. No fee will be charged.

GEORGIA SHERIFF’S YOUTH HOMES GOLF TOURNAMENT

— Area golfers are invited to attend the annual Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes Golf Tournament. Tournament director Eddie Brooker says this year’s event will be a combined fundraiser for Cherokee Estate Girls Home in Whitfield County and MountainVi­ew Boys Home in Murray County. This year’s tournament is Friday, Aug. 22 at Indian Trace Golf Course in Chatsworth. Shotgun starts will be at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded. Team sponsorshi­ps are available. Cost for a team is $450 and includes the round of golf with carts, range balls, lunch, and one mulligan and one red tee box per golfer. In addition, one additional mulligan per player will be available for $10 each. Tournament and hole sponsorshi­ps are also available. GORDON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GOLF TOURNAMENT

— The Gordon Couny Chamber of Commercer will host their annual golf tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Fields Ferry Golf Club. Check-in and lunch will be at 11 a.m. with tee times at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will go to support scholarshi­ps for local high school students and Chamber projects. There will be cash awards presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each flight. There will also be raffle prizes. The Chamber is also looking for tournament and hole sponsors.
