The following events are set for the Calhoun and Gordon County arts community:

The GEM Theatre’s summer movie series just got a little better! When you come to a movie at Calhoun’s GEM Theatre this summer, check-in on Facebook and receive a free bag of popcorn! Just show your check-in to our cashier and we will do the rest. One checkin per person please! The $5 Friday Night Flicks at the GEM Theatre include everything from popular ‘80’s films to current releases will be shown throughout the summer. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. each Friday with the movie beginning at 7 p.m. All films are $5 per person. Aug. 5 – Batman vs. Superman. The Harris Arts Center will host author Jimmy Blackmon for a signing of his new book, PALE HORSE, on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. The event is free and the public is encouraged to come meet Jimmy and hear him relate personal insights into his interviews with the servicemen and women of the 101st Airborne Division who served in Afghanista­n. Originally from Calhoun, Blackmon has a two decade career in army aviation, and will sign copies of his new release for those who wish to purchase a book. Calhoun Little Theater announces auditions for its upcoming production of Smoke on the Mountain on Aug. 23 and 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Harris Arts Center. Four males and three females, ages 17 to 60, will be cast. No special preparatio­n is necessary; actors will read cold from the script. Production dates for Smoke on the Mountain are November 4, 5, 6, 11, and 12. Smoke is an off-Broadway musical set in a North Carolina church in the 1938 and centers around the Sanders family, a traveling gospel group. “Songs Through the Decades” featuring brothers Stephen, Philip and Jonathan Hare will be presented at the Harris Arts Center on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 General Admission/$12 seniors, Students/$10 HAC Members and may be purchased online at www. harrisarts­center.com or by calling 706 629-2599.

The GEM Theatre is proud to present for the second time up and coming Country Artist Glen Templeton. Glen will be live on the GEM Stage on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Glen is a multi-talented artist that can sing both classic and contempora­ry country. Tickets are on sale now at the Box Office (open Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 and on Friday from 5-8 pm) or via our website at calhoungem­theatre.org. Ticket prices are $25 and $30.

The Regional Art Show featuring the work of 57 artists from Calhoun and surroundin­g cities in Georgia and Tennessee, will be on display in the galleries of the Harris Arts Center through Sept. 12. Sponsored by the Starr Mathews Agency, the show represents a variety of media. Admission is free. Harris Arts Center Hours: Monday – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The GEM Theatre presents James Gregory, “The Funniest Man in America,” on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25 - $35. The Harris Arts Center is proud to host singer, songwriter and musician, Jackson Lawrence, with special guest, Ellie Lawrence, on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Jackson and Ellie, who recently appeared on the nationally syndicated TV show, The Voice, will both release new CDs at this special concert. Jackson tours with such national acts as Luke Bryan, Willie Nelson, Ty Herndon, Steve Wariner, Randy Houser and many others.
