Former Calhoun standout Corey Greeson started his college baseball career at Walters State Community College out of high school and will now continue it at Kennesaw State.

Greeson pitched his freshman year primarily as a reliever and closer for the Walters State team that reached the Junior College World Series. He then took a medical redshirt his sophomore year due to a fractured hip. He missed 10 months before he was able to resume any athletic activities.

This summer he joined the Douglasville Bulls in the Sunbelt League coached by former Major League catcher Todd Pratt. Greeson played third base for the Bulls and enjoyed a great season.

The Bulls were eliminated in the semifinals, but Greeson ended the season close to the top of the League in several categories. He finished the season with a .370 batting average (first in the league) along with three homers (second), 19 RBIs (tied for third), 18 runs and 11 stolen bases playing in 24 games.

Greeson’s great season led him to earning the starting third-baseman position in the Southeast Collegiate AllStar Game between Team Georgia vs. Team Florida.

After a successful showcase and All-Star Game, Greeson was contacted by Kennesaw State University and offered a scholarship to continue his career with the Owls. He accepted the offer later that week and will enter Kennesaw State this Fall with three years of eligibility left as he forgoes his last year at Walters State.

“It was really hard not playing last spring so I was really excited to play this summer,” said Greeson. “Coach (Derek) Simmons at Kennesaw State messaged me at the beginning of the summer and told me they would be watch- ing. I didn’t think much of it, but I had a pretty good summer. I had been working really hard in the spring to get ready for summer ball and get back playing.

“I just kept playing well, and he talked to me after the Sunbelt All-Star Game and asked if I wanted to forgo my last year of eligibility at Walters State and come to KSU, and I though that was too big of an opportunity to pass up so I jumped on it”

Greeson said he is very excited for the opportunity to join a program like Kennesaw State and play for coach Sansing.

“I’m really excited,” said Greeson. “The goal has always been to play D-I baseball. Going to Walters State for two years, the goal was always to go D-I. I was pretty disappointed last year when I got hurt and wasn’t able to play. I was bummed out, but I guess it’s turned out to be a blessing with me being able to go to Kennesaw State. I’ll have three years of eligibility there.”

The Owls are coming off a trip to the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament this past spring, and Greeson said he is ready to be a part of another big run with the program next year.

“The run they made last year, I’m really excited to pick up where they left off. I know I’ve got an opportunity to start there so I guess I’m just going to keep working really hard to see if I can fill that role, and maybe we’ll make an even deeper run.”

Greeson said he leaves for Kennesaw State on Aug. 15 to begin the fall semester.

Greeson graduated from Calhoun in 2012 and signed to play at Walters State along with high school teammate Austin Norrell.

The two were a part of the Jackets' region title their senior year along with a trip to the Class AA quarterfinals.

Norrell recently signed to continue his college career at Middle Tennessee State after a successful two-year stint at Walters State.
