— The Calhoun Rec Department will hold registration for fall football and cheerleading July 7-Aug. 14. Registration fees are $50 for 5-6 flag football, $60 for 7-8,9-10, 11-12 tackle football and $60 for cheerleading. Assessment day for football is Aug. 16 and for cheerleading is Aug. 19. Football practice will begin Aug. 20 and cheerleading practice date will be announced later. Opening day is Sept. 13. — The Calhoun Rec Department will hold registration for fall youth soccer July 11-Aug. 21. Youth soccer is for boys and girls age 4-11 and must be 4 by Aug. 1, 2014. ASHWORTH MIDDLE GOLF TRYOUTS
— The Ashworth Middle School Golf Team Tryouts will be Aug. 11 at Fields Ferry and Calhoun Elks Club Aug. 12 after school until 6:30 p.m. Students will be pro- vided transportation to the course but must be picked up at 6:30 p.m. at the course. Paperwork including field trip, insurance and medical forms and a physical to be completed by a doctor, can be picked up at the office of Ashworth Middle School. Paperwork is required to ride bus to the course and to try out.
GEORGIA SHERIFF’S YOUTH HOMES GOLF TOURNAMENT
— Area golfers are invited to attend the annual Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes Golf Tournament. Tournament director Eddie Brooker says this year’s event will be a combined fundraiser for Cherokee Estate Girls Home in Whitfield County and MountainView Boys Home in Murray County. This year’s tournament is Friday, Aug. 22 at Indian Trace Golf Course in Chatsworth. Shotgun starts will be at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded. Team sponsorships are available. Cost for a team is $450 and includes the round of golf with carts, range balls, lunch, and one mulligan and one red tee box per golfer. In addition, one additional mulligan per player will be available for $10 each. Tournament and hole sponsorships are also available. GORDON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GOLF TOURNAMENT
— The Gordon Couny Chamber of Commercer will host their annual golf tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Fields Ferry Golf Club. Check-in and lunch will be at 11 a.m. with tee times at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will go to support scholarships for local high school students and Chamber projects. There will be cash awards presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each flight. There will also be raffle prizes. The Chamber is also looking for tournament and hole sponsors.
