Curtis Craig

Curtis Craig, age 61, of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Curtis was born on Oct. 30, 1954 in Fairmount to the late Reverend Frank Andrew Craig and Willie Marquett Anderson Craig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Craig; and sister, Annie Ruth Thacker. Curtis worked for the City of Calhoun for 27 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Tonya Craig, of Calhoun; brother, Charles Craig and his wife, Peggy; sister, Faye Mashburn and her husband, Max; mother- in- law, Shirley Wade; sister- in- law, Pam Bennett and her husband, Roy; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Aug. 5 at 11 a. m. at Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Eddie Herring officiatin­g. Bob Daniels and Donna Looney had charge of music. Burial followed in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearer­s serving were Drew Craig, Steve Cochran, David Pass, Edward Owens, Kenny Padgett, Johnny Martin, Bruce Kelly and Neal Russell. Honorary pallbearer­s were Don McGinnis, Joey Moore and Judy Craig.

The family received friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

Bernice McDonald

Mrs. Bernice Eads McDonald, 77, of Calhoun, died at her home on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, following several months of declining health. Bernice was born in Gordon County on Aug. 6, 1938; she was the daughter of the late Bradley “RB” and Ethel Gee Eads. Prior to her retirement, she worked with Echota Fabrics. Bernice was a member of New Town Baptist Church.

Survivors are her husband, C. L. McDonald; her sons, Keith Gravitte and Kenneth Gravitte and his companion, Debra Gowins; her grandchild­ren, Kenny Jr., Jennifer, John Eric, Misty, Crystal and Justin; her great- grandchild­ren, Kenzie, Jacob, Alexis, Madison, Lucas, Donovan, Dominic, Ethan and Ava; a special cousin, Eunice King.

The McDonald family received friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 from 5 until 8 p. m.

The funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016 at 2 p. m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial followed the service at Chandler Cemetery. Rev. Eddie Brannon officiated. Pallbearer­s were Jacob McClure, James Lockridge, Danny Lockridge, Tony McDonald, Randy Kinsley and Steven McDonald.

Mady Bostain

Ms. Mady Elizabeth Bostain passed away at the age of 99 on Thursday, Aug. 4 in her residence. She was the daughter of James Forrest Holcomb and Mamie Elizabeth ( Stephens) Holcomb. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles Holcomb, James Holcomb, Ben Wingate, sister Lucy Brockway and husband Robert Bostain. Ms. Bostain is survived by sister Rubie Robbins of Winter Park, Fla., brother Dan Wingate of Calhoun, nephews and nieces.

She was a long time resident of Sandy Springs who enjoyed traveling both domestical­ly and aboard. She was an avid walker having logged over 40,000 miles with a walking club in Sandy Springs. She credits walking 10- 12 miles a day for her long life and was featured in a CNN segment and Readers Digest article on the benefits of exercise. Mady made it a point to walk up Stone Mountain annually and last did so at the age of 86. She volunteere­d at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her mid-80’s and was a member of the North Atlanta Church of Christ. Her wit, endless energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at 2 p. m. from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsvill­e with Rev. Jim Pinkard officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsvill­e. The family received friends Monday from 1 until 2 p. m. at the funeral home.

Rickey Roberts

Rickey Roberts, 66, of Oostanaula, answered the call of his Lord and Savior to come home on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016. Rickey was known to be a family man. He was a respectful son of Alfred Loranza “Jack” Roberts and Dymple Greeson Roberts; a loving husband to his wife of 47 years, Orvinell Clark Roberts; a proud father of his daughters Tina Roberts Jackson and her husband, Jerry Jackson, and Tara Roberts Sewell and her husband, Sidney Sewell; a nurturing grandfathe­r to his grandsons, Chase Jackson, Cole Jackson, Ethan Sewell and Easton Sewell and his granddaugh­ter Ellie Sewell; a brother to Dennie Roberts and his wife, Holly Carpenter Roberts; and a loyal friend to many.

He was a lifetime member of the Oostanaula community where he shared his love of gardening and farming with his neighbors. Rickey was a 1968 graduate of Calhoun High School and played trumpet with the “Pride of the Georgia Northlands” Yellow Jacket Marching Band. He was also a founding member of the St. John’s, a band that entertaine­d in the southeast for many years, playing bass and vocals. He spent the first years of his working career as a meat cutter for Colonial Stores/ Big Star grocery stores. He was currently self- employed as a poultry and cattle farmer and landlord with Roberts Poultry & Rental Properties, LLC.

He was born on May 15, 1950 in Whitfield County. He had been battling declining health for the last four years. Rickey was of the Baptist faith and member of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, daughters, and grandchild­ren, Rickey leaves behind special aunts: Katherine Pennington- Lewis, Hilda Roberts Worthingto­n, Wanda Roberts Thurmond and her husband, Randall, Ouida Roberts, Nancy Pratt, and an uncle Randall Roberts. He is also survived many cousins and other relatives.

The Roberts family received friends on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p. m. at Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Rickey will be held Wednesday, August 10 at 1 p.m. at Meadowdale Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Pearson officiatin­g. Music will be arranged by his life- long friend, Travis Stephens. He will lie in state from 12 p. m. until the funeral hour. Pallbearer­s are Carmen Caldwell, Bobby Reeves, Roger Clark, Danny Stephens, Travis Stephens, and Wayne Hester. Honorary pallbearer­s are Sammy Watkins, Lester Rampey, Greg Weaver, and the Calhoun Fire Department.

Edna Mae Manis

Mrs. Edna Mae James Manis, age 91, of Chatsworth, passed away Monday Aug. 8, 2016 at her residence. She enjoyed quilting. Mrs. Manis was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Vina James; husband, Frank B. Manis; three sons, Billy, Jerry and Quinn Manis; daughter, Peggy Ann Manis; special son- in- law, Clifford Dover.

Survivors include, son, Steven W. Manis, Sr., Chatsworth; daughters and sons- in- law, Louise and Marvin Garner, Calhoun, Linda and Jerry Blaylock, Myra Dover, Rebecca and John Stephens and Stephanie Voyles all of Chatsworth; brothers and sister- in- law, Charles and Judy James, and Tommy James all of Chatsworth; sisters, Velma Johnson, Tifton, Ivoray Akridge, Calhoun, Josephine Saul, Calhoun, Mary Tucker and Margaret Pierce both of Tifton; 18 grandchild­ren; 30 great- grandchild­ren; five great- great grandchild­ren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Tracy Chamlee

Ms. Tracy Denise Chamlee, age 53, of Old Dalton Road, Calhoun, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at the residence.

She was born in Rome on July 24, 1963, daughter of the late Joe Chamlee and Syble Hazelwood Chamlee. Ms. Chamlee was a member of New Life Ministries and loved the Lord. She was a wonderful mother and grandmothe­r. Ms. Chamlee never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. She was preceded in death by parents; sister, Sheryl Chamlee; brother, Joey Chamlee.

Survivors include her daughter and son- inlaw, Morgan and Kenneth Brooks of Resaca; grandchild­ren, Dawson Semon, Jayleigh Brooks, and Adianna Brooks; sisters, Brenda and Steve Holsonback and Judy Chamlee; brother, Terry Chamlee; her dog, Buddy and several niece and nephews

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at 2 p. m. from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsvill­e with Rev. Steve Morrow and Mrs. Audrey Wilson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsvill­e. Pallbearer­s will be Ravee Morrow, Scotty Mathis, Chris Hunt, Steve Benton, Steve Quarles, and Mike Chamlee. Honorary pallbearer­s will be Paul Barton and Ronnie Towe.

The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsvill­e.
