Mohawk claims record fourth Pinnacle Award

(Calhoun, Ga.) Mohawk Industries has once again been recognized for its dedication to sustainabl­e practices, quality products and charitable promotions by receiving three awards from Floor Covering Weekly, including the top sustainabi­lity honor, the GreenStep Pinnacle Award.

Each year, the GreenStep Pinnacle Award is presented to an individual or company from the flooring industry whose sustainabi­lity efforts exceed typical profession­al duties and industry norms.

Mohawk was also named a winner in the product category for its SmartStran­d ForeverCle­an with All Pet Protection and Warranty and in the promotion category for “Cushion the Fight,” where 800 pieces of Mohawk SmartCushi­on were provided to participan­ts in the Susan G. Komen® 3-Day 60-mile walk fundraiser.

Floor Covering Weekly, one of the flooring industry’s leading trade publicatio­ns for more than 60 years, began the GreenStep Awards in 2009 to recognize, honor and promote environmen­tal stewardshi­p within the flooring industry.

We have proven, once again, that sustainabl­e business is good business.”

Mohawk is leading the flooring industry in product transparen­cy and Green Building Alliance™ red list-free product offerings. In conjunctio­n with the Internatio­nal Living Future Institute’s Declare™ program, the company has introduced more than 490 red list-free flooring options, offering an array of healthy flooring selections to its customers.

Since 2010, the company has seen a reduction in waste-to-landfill intensity of more than 25 percent and a reduced water intensity of nearly 24 percent

Water- consumptio­n solutions have helped sixteen of Mohawk’s 24 global ceramic tile manufactur­ing plants recover and reuse 100 percent of their process wastewater.

As the one of the largest recyclers in the flooring industry, Mohawk produces flooring from post-consumer recycled material such as PET plastic bottles, rubber tires, and glass. They have establishe­d 44 zero process waste to landfill manufactur­ing facilities.
