The Sonoravill­e Lady Phoenix continued their hot start to the season on Monday with another convincing win at home.

The Lady Phoenix defeated Murray County 7-1 behind a strong combined pitching performanc­e from three players and some big hits from the middle of their lineup.

Thaley Jackson earned the win by going three innings and giving up just two hits while striking out one. Alyssa Hughes pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit while striking out four, and Kelsey Mulkey pitched two innings and gave up four hits and one run (unearned).

Griffin Holden led the way offensivel­y for Sonoravill­e ( 3- 0) with three hits, including a double, and one RBI. Jackson and Baylee Blaylock also had two hits apiece, and McKenzie Green had a hit and an RBI. Mollie Locke had a hit and a run scored, and Harleigh Chastain also had two runs scored.

The Lady Phoenix hosted Coahulla Creek on Tuesday. ( For details on that game, see Saturday’s Calhoun Times.) They visit LFO on Thursday at 5: 30 p.m.

SOFTBALL Calhoun 11, Coahulla Creek 2 (five innings)

The Lady Jackets continued their earlyseaso­n offensive surge on Monday as they put a crooked number on the scoreboard for a Region 6-AAA crossover win.

Calhoun (3-0) racked up 18 total hits, which included perfect 4-for4 days from Ashlyn Barnes and Allie Jones. Jones had two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored as well, and Barnes scored three times. Jana Johns also had a big offensive day with two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer. Maddie Bumgardner, Maddie Clay and Cassie Henderson all had two hits apiece, and Ryan Brzozoski and Carlie Henderson both had a hit and an RBI.

Tori Gaddis got the win by pitching five innings and giving up two runs on six hits while striking out nine.

The Lady Jackets were back home on Tuesday to host North Murray. ( For details on that game, see Saturday’s Calhoun Times.) They host Ringgold on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Calhoun 14, LFO 1 (four innings)

Calhoun continued their strong first week of the season with another run-rule shortened win on Thursday on the road.

The Lady Jackets racked up 12 hits and put 14 runs on the board in a victory at LFO in four innings in a Region 6-AAA crossover matchup.

Jana Johns had a huge day at the plate with a triple, homer, four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way offensivel­y for the Lady Jackets ( 2- 0). Maddie Clay added a homer and a double to go with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Maddie Bumgardner also went deep for a solo homer.

Ashlyn Barnes also had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run while scoring two, and Ryan Brzozoski had a triple of her own to go along with an RBI. Allie Jones and Adella Carver both added a hit and an RBI apiece.

Kayla Watson earned the win in the circle, going four innings and giving up just one run while striking out one.

Sonoravill­e 8, North Murray 3

The Lady Phoenix got another good day from their offense to go along with strong pitching to earn a road win on Thursday in a Region 6-AAA crossover matchup.

Baylee Blaylock had the big blow for the Sonoravill­e offense with a three-run homer. Harleigh Chastain added two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases, and Thaley Jackson also had a two-hit day with an RBI. McKenzie Green drove in a run and had a hit, Grace Fitzwater had a double and Griffin Holden scored two runs.

Alyssa Hughes got the win for the Lady Phoenix ( 2- 0) as she pitched 5 2-3 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out eight. Jackson pitched 1 1-3 innings of scoreless relief and gave up two hits.

Chattooga 9, Gordon Central 3

The Lady Warriors opened their regular season on Thursday at home and came away with a tough loss against a Region 7-AA foe.

Gordon Central trailed 5-0 going to the bottom of the fourth before rallying to within two runs with a threerun frame, but the Lady Indians added on from there and didn’t allow any more scoring.

Cailey Martin led the offense for the Lady Warriors with a two-run homer. Destiny Parker had a double and an RBI, and Morgan Frank also added a double. Mackenzie Hall scored a run and had a hit.

Gordon Central was back at home on Tuesday to host Dade County. (For details on that game, see Saturday’s Calhoun Times.) They visit Coosa on Thursday for another region matchup at 5:30 p.m.
