About the Coach
Christa Bowen has been teaching in Gordon County for 19 years with the last seven spent at Sonoraville High School and this year is her third year coaching the SHS spirit squad.
Bowen is married to Allen Bowen and they have three children; daughter Tristan attends fourth grade at Sonoraville Elementary School, daughter Raylynn attends third grade at Sonoraville Elementary School and son Micah, who is grown and has two children of his own, Judson and Harper. When she isn’t teaching or working with the cheerleading squad, Bowen and her family spend time boating and camping.
Co- coach: Jana Combs works alongside Bowen to help lead the team. This will be Jana’s first year helping coach the spirit squad at SHS. She taught at Belwood Elementary for twelve years before moving to Sonoraville High School last year to teach eighth grade Language Arts.
Six of the squad’s nine seniors attended FCA cheer camp at Berry College this summer. Madison Floyd, Tiffany Kimbrell, Anna Mullinax, Jayla Thurman, Makay Wofford, and Braylen York got to participate in this camp and Madison Floyd earned the honor of being named FCA All- American Cheerleader.
“The girls learned so much and truly bonded while away,” said Bowen.“Our squad is so proud of these girls.”
Season Plans
The Sonoraville High spirit squad will be hosting a cheer camp for students in grades K - 8 on Aug. 2426 from 6-7:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending can email Bowen at cbowen@ gcbe.org.
“The SHS spirit squad looks forward to cheering on the Phoenix Nation and is excited about getting the 2016- 17 season underway,” said Bowen.
