About the Director

Dr. Matthew Loyd grew up in North Georgia, attending Ridgeland High School in Walker County. With hard work and much dedication, he received his Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude with Special Honors in Music from Jacksonville State University. He then went on to receive his Master of Education degree from Columbus State University.

After he finished his Masters, Dr. Loyd went on to Argosy University where he earned his Doctorate in Education. Loyd has seen many accomplishments over the course of his career including performing with the Rome Georgia Symphony Orchestra and the Gadsden Symphony Orchestra.

About the Show

You will not want to miss the Sonoraville Marching Band halftime show this year as they will be performing classic ensembles from the hit movie series Jurassic Park.

Loyd is expecting another successful year following up last year’s wins. In October, the Phoenix Marching Band received straight superior scores at their competition and the band brought home the first Grand Championship in school history.

The marching band has worked extremely hard over the summer including spending two weeks in the hot Georgia sun preparing for the upcoming season. You will see many new special effects this year and may be surprised to see the addition of a pit percussion section to the performance on the field.

In addition to the special effects and the new percussion section, Loyd plans to bring back the amazing Phoenix fire twirlers. The band is currently working on some new additions to their show and honing their performance in preparation for the first football game this year which will be a scrimmage between Sonoraville and Gordon Central.
