Why are some people so long in coming to Christ?

- Randy Muse

There are many reasons why some people are so long in coming to Christ, but I’d like to point out several that are common.

One of the most frequently found reasons is that of ignorance. Why is this? Is it not preached in hundreds of thousands of places every week? Is it not written in thousands of publications? Understanding of the gospel is only through the power of the Holy Spirit. Often the simplicity of the gospel is an issue to some.

Many people are hindered from coming to Christ by their raising. Too often the idea of a “half and half” gospel is taught. This is the thought that part of salvation is dependent upon grace, and part by keeping the law or the commandments. They believe that salvation has something to do with Christ, but don’t realize it’s all about His finished work. If we had to be good enough to spend eternity with God, how good would be good enough? How much work would be enough?

With many, the hindrance comes through false teachings. An example of this is the idea that there is no difference between sinner and saint. There is a difference. The idea that we are all children of God is wrong. We are all creations of God, but not all children of God.

Perhaps the greatest form of hindrance is that of natural pride. Eternal life is a gift from God. This creates in some men a problem. We as men don’t like the idea of receiving any type of charity, and therefore some will struggle to accept this free gift. Men love morality, but have a tendency to hate grace.

God’s way of salvation is that He demands that we trust in His Son, who died for sinners. Christ is worthy to be trusted. God found satisfaction in the sacrifice of His Son. If Jesus satisfied The Father, He certainly satisfies me. I have found Him to be enough. Jesus said in John 14: 6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.” Call upon Him today. Be blessed.
