Local MOMS Club to hold open house Sept. 20

- By Brandi Owczarz

MOMS Club Calhoun, a support group for mothers in Gordon County, will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the Black & Yellow Playground Pavilion at the Calhoun Recreation Department off of McDaniel Station Road.

According to Kim Holland with the local Gordon County MOMS Club, Calhoun is a local chapter for the interna- tional MOMS club organization. Locally, the group consists mostly of stay-at-home moms, and the group has a monthly calendar of events that includes activities such as park play days, pot lucks, library story time, play dates, a book club for the moms and one Moms Night Out per month.

All of the monthly events except for Moms Night Out are held during the week and during business hours.

The local MOMS Club is a nonprofit corporation and a 501 (C) (3) publicly supported charity registered with the IRS. Each year, the club chooses a charitable cause that directly supports women and/or children for the local group to participate in. The club has officers who serve as volunteer coordinators and are mothers that reside in Gordon County. Each member of the club has a vote in all aspects of the club and gets to add events to our monthly calendar.

Holland says that mothers of any age children are welcome, and you don’t have to leave the group once your children enter school because mothers need support as their children grow. Children are also welcome at all daytime events. The goal of the club is to be mom-focused and child-friendly.

The club hosts a public, social meeting the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department on River Street.

The club is open to mothers that live in Gordon County. The club can be found on Facebook as Moms Club of Calhoun, or the club can be emailed at calhounmoms@gmail. com. Dues are $20 per year and go toward public meetings and charitable events.
