Sonoravill­e’s Griffin Holden drove in all three runs, including the game-winner in the seventh inning, to help her team to a hardfought subregion win.

Holden finished 2- for- 3 with three RBIs to lead the Lady Phoenix to a 3- 2 win over Adairsvill­e on Thursday. It was a nice bounceback win after they suffered their first 6- AAA South subregion loss on Tuesday at Calhoun.

Sonoravill­e (9-7, 3-1 subregion) trailed 2- 0 going to the fifth before Holden came through with a two-run single to even things up, setting up her dramatic walkoff hit in the seventh.

Harleigh Chastain added a hit, two runs scored and a stolen base for the Lady Phoenix, and Kristen Davis, Grace Fitzwater, Alyssa Hughes and Sandra Beth Pritchett all had a hit apiece. McKenzie Green scored a run as well.

Davis earned the win in relief as she pitched the final 1 1-3 innings of shutout ball and didn’t allow a hit while striking out two.

Hughes started and went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six, and Thaley Jackson came on to provide 1 2-3 innings of scoreless relief while giving up just one hit.

Sonoravill­e is back at home on Thursday to host Haralson County for another subregion matchup at 5:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL Gordon Central 16, Model 0

The Gordon Central offense exploded for 16 runs on 25 hits, punctuatin­g things with a ninerun seventh, to roll past Model on Thursday for a region road victory.

Sam Jordan had five hits, an RBI and two runs scored, and Cara Crump and Sidney Taylor each had four hits apiece to lead the Lady Warriors (2-9-1, 25). Crump had a double and a triple among her two hits and drove in four runs, and Taylor also had a double along with an RBI and two runs scored.

Destiny Parker added two doubles and an RBI, Morgan Frank was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and five runs scored, Montana Slaughter had two hits and three RBIs, Mackenzie Hall added a double and two RBIs and Cailey Martin and Cheyenne Temple each had two hits as well. Gordon Central also stole a total of 11 bases in the win.

Parker earned the win in the circle pitching a dominant complete- game shutout, going seven innings and giving up just two hits while striking out nine.

Gordon Central visits Coahulla Creek on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for a non-region test.

Calhoun 16, Bremen 3

After the game was tied 2-2 going to the fifth inning on Thursday, the Calhoun offense erupted for 14 runs in the final three innings to coast past the Lady Blue Devils for another subregion win on the road.

The Lady Jackets ( 17- 1, 3- 0 subregion) cranked out 24 hits in the dominant victory. Ashlyn Barnes was a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases from the leadoff spot, and Jana Johns had four hits, including two doubles, with four RBIs and four runs scored, to lead the offensive outburst.

Maddie Bumgardner had a big day as well with three hits, including a homer and a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, and Allie Jones had three hits with a double and two RBIs. Ryan Brzozoski had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, and Cassie Henderson and Carlie Henderson each added two hits and an RBI. Chloe Rice also had a double and an RBI.

Kayla Watson earned the win for Calhoun by pitching a complete game ( seven innings) and giving up three runs ( two earned) on seven hits while striking out one.

The Lady Jackets were back home on Tuesday to host Adairsvill­e in a subregion matchup. ( For details on that game, see Saturday’s Calhoun Times.) They visit Ringgold on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for a Region 6-AAA crossover matchup.

Calhoun’s offense is off to an incredible start through the first half of the season, batting .549 with 225 total hits and 151 runs scored. They have four players batting .500 or better led by Johns, who is currently hitting .564 with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 34 RBIs. Barnes, Jones and Carlie Henderson are also batting .500 or better.
