XXIII Unity Run to be recorded by drone cinematography

- Staff Reports

Thanks to Joseph Edwards, owner and operator of Hipster Woodsman, the Unity Run will be covered from start to finish by live cinematography.

The run will be videoed by a drone and can be viewed on the United Way of Gordon County webpage www.gordoncountyunitedway. org several weeks after the run. The drone will also be able to take still photos that will be used on Facebook, Instagram and the webpage.

“Hipster Woodsman is a cinematography and photography company dedicated to rendering the wild. We focus on capturing the hunting and outdoors way of life,” said Edwards. “With this tech- nology, we are also able to video events like the Unity Run.”

“This is a first for the Unity Run and should be a really cool thing to watch,” said Ashley Goble, United Way director of communications and community involvement. “This view from the sky will offer a totally different perspective of the run and something everyone will enjoy.”

“Ashley Goble joined Gordon County United Way in June after completing her degree in Health and Human Services from Kennesaw State University. She brings enthusiasm for new technology to United Way with her knowledge of social media and has really raised the bar by arranging for the drone,” said Executive Director Vickie Spence. “Ashley is definitely making a difference in a very short amount of time with her Young Leaders Society and the use social media to bring awareness to United Way of Gordon County and the 19 agencies it supports.”

The XXIII Unity Run is set for Tuesday, Sept. 27. The AGC Pediatrics 1-K Kid’s Run starts and finishes at Gordon Central High School. The AGC Pediatrics 1-K starts at 5 p.m. and is over by 5:30 p.m.

“Many of the children go on and complete the 5-K run at 6:30,” said Spence. “They can do both runs for the same price, but they only get one t-shirt. The 1-K is a fun event for children in grades PreK through fifth. Each age group receives medals for first, second and third place winners. Awards are given to the Overall Male and Female winners as well. Children are encouraged wear their medals to school on Wednesday morning. Every child leaves with a special AGC Pediatrics Medal along with a t-shirt and coupons from Chickfil-A and Waffle House. The run starts near the Gordon Central Softball field and finishes on the track at Ratner Stadium.”

The 5-K Run/Walk starts at 6:30 p.m. at Gordon Central and finishes in beautiful downtown Calhoun at the corner of Court Street and Park Avenue. Participants are encouraged to park downtown before the run and meet the school buses as the Calhoun Depot, located at 109 South King Street. Buses will run from 4:30 - 6:15 p.m. from the Depot. No buses will run after the race. A big finish line party is set for downtown Calhoun as the runners cross the line.”

On Monday, Sept. 26 from 2 – 6 p.m., runners and walkers may pick up their running numbers to be ready to run when they get off the bus.

Runners may register on-line at www.gordoncountyunitedway.org or active.com.
