Gordon County Schools names Transportation Director
During a called meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, the Gordon County Board of Education named Keith Brown as the new Director of Transportation for the school district.
Brown brings with him to Gordon County experience with various aspects of transportation management.
He most recently served as a fleet sales executive for Seon, a routing software company. However, he also brings past experience in school transportation, having served as the routing specialist for Haralson County Schools. Additionally, he has served as business development director for an educational transportation contracting company that handled all of Dalton City Schools’ student transportation, as well as that of Hamilton County, Tenn., among others.
Brown’s focus as he begins his new position will be to create a healthy team culture that is based on mutu- al support, trust and respect for one another. “The work environment is a key component and must be designed to foster innovation and creativity by those tasked with the responsibility of transporting our students,” said Brown.
His initial goal, through the support of his transportation staff, will be to evaluate each key area of operations within the transportation department. Furthermore, he is confident that his 25 years of experience in the area of transportation will assist him in “increasing employee performance by empowering the workforce with the tools, training and motivation necessary for exemplary performance.”
“We are excited to have Keith join the Gordon County Schools’ team,” said Dr. Susan Remillard, Gordon County Schools’ Superintendent. “The interview committee, which consisted of our high school principals, a middle school principal, and an elementa- ry school principal, as well as representation from the transportation department, interviewed thirteen candidates, many of whom provided excellent representation; however, Mr. Brown was a unanimous candidate for recommendation to the Board of Education for hire. I believe I can speak on behalf of the committee that we look forward to what he will bring to our transportation department and our school system in its entirety.”
Brown assumed his official capacity on Friday, Sept. 16.
