Books donated to local library to recognize Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
To raise awareness during September, Gordon County Suicide Prevention Coalition donated books to the Calhoun- Gordon County Library.
“Three books were selected and address different aspects of suicide,” stated Coalition chair Roberta Charbonneau. Two copies of each of the following books will be available at the Library.
“Suicide: The Forever Decision” by Paul G. Quinnett, a nationally known psychologist and an awardwinning writer, is described as: For those thinking about suicide, and for those who know, love, or counsel them, this book discusses the social aspects of suicide, the right to die, anger, loneliness, depression, stress, hopelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, the consequences of a suicide attempt, and how to get help.
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most recognizable structures to define a modern city, yet for author Kevin Hines the bridge is not merely a marker of a place or a time. In his book “Cracked, Not Broken: Surviving and Thriving After a Suicide Attempt,” author Kevin Hines shares how the bridge marks the beginning of his remarkable story. At 19 years old, Kevin attempted to take his own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
“Choosing Hope, Finding Joy: A Journey Through Trauma and Loss” by Georgia author Sheri McGuinness, is a true story of a family’s account of trauma and resilience as one mom fights to help her family survive, thrive and even flourish after repeated significant losses.
