Kaine issued an executive order banning smoking in government buildings and government vehicles. Kaine states that his Catholic Christian faith guides him. He opposes abortion, but he is not willing to do anything to change Roe v. Wade. He has favored banning late term abortions but now agrees with Hillary Clinton that all abortions should be allowed.

Senator Kaine opposes capital punishment even though the state of Virginia executed eleven inmates while he was governor. He vetoed all of the bills the legislature sent to him to expand capital punishment for other crimes while he was governor.

Senator Kaine supports legislation to control climate change, which he says is evidenced on the shores of Virginia with higher sea levels. He was in favor of opening offshore drilling to the shores of Virginia but has changed his opinion to be in agreement with Obama and
