Dana Stewart to fill Board of Education vacancy
During a called meeting on Sept. 15, 2016, the Gordon County Board of Education selected Dana Stewart to fill the unexpired term of Pam Taylor, who recently resigned her Post 3 position, following a relocation that took her out of Gordon County.
Stewart, who is known to many in the community through her position as a nurse practitioner at Gordon Adult and Pediatric Medicine, applied for the vacant position with a desire to provide support to the work of the school district she and her family consciously chose for their own children when moving to Calhoun over three years ago.
“When my family moved to Calhoun, we evaluated each available elementary school and middle school,” said Stewart. “We visited each school as a family and we prayed about the decision for where to send our children to school. We still believe this has been the best choice for our family.”
Stewart further commented on her vision in the role of a Board of Education member. “I believe it is of utmost importance that a school board work in a capacity to support the school administrative teams and staff,” said Stewart. “It is my ultimate goal to work in whatever capacity possible to help ensure our educational professionals have the support and tools they need to maintain their plans.”
Through her work as a healthcare provider, as well as a mother to two boys, she has become involved in the community with volunteer efforts at Healing Hands Medical Clinic and through the local schools and New Town Baptist, where her family attends church.
“We look forward to having Mrs. Stewart join the Board of Education as we work together to provide the best possible education for the students of Gordon County,” said Brenda Null, BOE chairperson.
