The City of Adairsville presents the 2016 Great Locomotive Chase Festival
For the 48th year in a row, festival attendees will gather in Historic Downtown Adairsville for the Great Locomotive Chase Festival. Spanning three blocks, an anticipated 30,000 attendees will enjoy the weekend’s festivities including carnival rides, arts and crafts, a variety of festival food vendors, live music and entertainment on two stages, the annual Great Locomotive Chase Parade and Pageant and Saturday night fireworks show.
The festival begins on Friday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 1, festival hours are 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. with the festival continuing on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 12 – 5 p.m.
The Great Locomotive Chase Festival is a three-day celebration held each year to commemorate the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, in which James J. Andrews and his Union Army volunteers hijacked confederate locomotive, The General, and took it northward toward Chattanooga, Tennessee. The festival is held the first weekend each October in the center of downtown Adairsville. People from all around the Northwest Georgia participate in annual tradition.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $3 and can be used on all three festival days. There is no charge for admission on Sunday.
Festival booths are sold out, but information on registering for the Saturday parade and/ or pageant, along with itinerary information, can be found at www. adairsvillefestivals.com this
