Gordon County Schools names REACH Scholars

- Staff Reports

The Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen ( REACH) Scholarship Program was launched by Governor Deal in 2012 and is a needsbased mentorship and scholarship program designed to encourage students, starting in middle school, to persist in their educational pursuits. Students are provided with the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college, achieve postsecondary success and be prepared for the 21st century workforce.

On September 20, during Gordon County Schools’ 2016 REACH Signing Ceremony, Dr. Susan Remillard and the Board of Education, alongside the local community of business and education leaders, welcomed five 8th grade students to the Gordon County College and Career Academy to participate in what promises to be an annual event. Students and their families were honored at the ceremony, with Representative John Meadows offering a commendation from Gov. Nathan Deal, as well as personal words of encouragement for these promising young students.

During t he ceremony, students and their families signed contracts to uphold program requirements that will lead to a minimum of $10,000 in scholarship funding for students who successfully complete the program.
