The following events are set for the Calhoun and Gordon County arts community:

Calhoun Little Theater announces auditions for its December production, “Every Christmas Story Ever Told ( And Then Some!) on Sept. 27, from 7 to 8 p. m., and Sept. 29, from 6 to 7 p. m. Three males will be cast, two adults and one teen to early 20s. Parts require significan­t physicalit­y. No advance preparatio­n is necessary; actors will read cold from the script. Production dates are Dec. 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. “Every Christmas Story Ever Told” by John Alvarez, Michael Carleton and James FitzGerald, is a family friendly comedy. Eddie Brannon will host “An Evening of Gospel Music” featuring the Jordan Family Band on Saturday, Oct. 15, 7 p. m., at the Harris Arts Center. All six members of the Jordan family sing, play and minister together. The GEM Theatre is pleased to present Grammy Award winning group The SteelDrive­rs in concert on the GEM stage on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7: 30 p. m. The SteelDrive­rs have a realness and rawness to their sound that captures the attention of their audience and doesn’t let go. The band won a GRAMMY for Best Bluegrass Album for The Muscle Shoals Recordings at the 2016 awards. John Berry in concert at the GEM Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at 7: 30 p. m. Twenty years ago John had his first of many #1 Billboard Chart toppers with the incredible song ‘ Your Love Amazes Me.” And he has never stopped making music since. 2016 ushered in John Berry a new outlook and a new beginning. The singer- songwriter rose to stardom on the country charts of the 1990s with such mega hits as Your Love Amazes Me, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye, and She’s Taken a Shine. His annual Christmas tours brighten the holidays for thousands, as does his electrifyi­ng rendition of O’Holy Night. The Polar Express at the GEM Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 2 p. m. The 2004 classic “The Polar Express” will be presented as the first feature in the GEM’s celebratio­n of Calhoun’s Open House! A young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. Along the way he learns about friendship, bravery and the spirit of Christmas. Rated G. The GEM would like to thank Downtown Calhoun for sponsoring the Open House movies. Their generosity allows the GEM to offer these two classics free of charge. Although free, tickets are required and may be reserved at the Box Office, by phone or online beginning November 1.

The Joni Harbin Show at the GEM Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, 7 p. m. Calhoun’s GEM Theatre is excited to present The Joni Harbin Show! You know her as the hysterical Mistress of Ceremonies for Calhoun’s Dancing with the Stars and the acclaimed Emcee of the Pearl Awards. Joni debuted her comedy show two years ago on the GEM stage. Now you have the opportunit­y to see Joni in an all- new show Saturday, Dec. 3. This show will be a sell out so get your tickets early - you don’t want to miss Joni! Tickets go on sale Oct. 1, 2016.

A Christmas Story at the GEM Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, 5 p. m. “A Christmas Story” is a 1983 American Christmas comedy film based on short stories and semifictio­nal anecdotes of author Jean Shepherd. The movie is directed by Bob Clark. The movie f eatures Ralphie Parker ( Peter Billingsle­y), a nineyear- old boy, who is trying to convince his parents, his teacher and Santa that a Red Ryder B. B. gun is a pefect gift in the 1940s. This film is rated PG. Tickets to A Christmas Story are $5 each and go on sale on Nov. 1, 2016. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at the GEM Theatre on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, 7: 30 p. m. The GEM is pleased to present the 1989 holiday favorite “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Wear your best tacky Christmas attire and join the Griswold family as their plans for a big family Christmas predictabl­y turn into a disaster. The steller cast includes Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, Diane Ladd, E. G. Marshall and Doris Roberts. Rated PG- 13. It’s A Wonderful Life at the GEM Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at 2 p. m. The GEM is pleased to present the 1946 classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The film stars Jimmy Stewart as a compassion­ate but despairing­ly frustrated businessma­n, George Bailey. Henry Travers is the angel, Clarence, who shows George what life would have been like without his existence. Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore also star in this feelgood film that is the perfect start to your Christmas season. Not rated. How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the GEM Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at 7: 30 p. m. The GEM is pleased to present this liveaction adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch ( Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantl­y joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountainto­p home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday- related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who ( Taylor Momsen).
