Catoosa Senior Villages offer luxurious living for local seniors at an affordable price

- By Brandi Owczarz

The Catoosa Senior Villages are Gordon County’s premiere rental apartments for those aged 55 and older.

“It’s such a special place,” said Site Manager Lee Lewis. “When people visit our apartments, they tell us they’re the best looking ones in Calhoun and we’re proud of that.”

The Catoosa Senior Village I, built in 2003, is located at 98 Timms Road in Calhoun near Gordon Hospital. With 60 total luxury units of one and two bedroom apartments, the village offers a covered community patio and picnic area, fitness room and professional landscaping.

Built in 2009, Catoosa Senior Village II, located at 400 Birchwood Road behind Village I, also offers luxury two and three bedroom apartments for a total of 52 units. A computer resource room and library, fully outfitted fitness room, a dance floor with stereo equipment, covered porch, large gazebo with picnic and barbecue facilities and shuffle board court are located on the grounds of Village II.

Both buildings are two- story and offer elevators for convenience.

Inside the units, residents are offered a refrigerator with icemaker, stove, dishwasher and garbage disposal; spacious living areas; washer and dryer connections; private patio or balconies and French doors.

While the apartments are some of the nicest in Gordon County, at some of the most affordable pricing around, what sets them apart is the atmo- sphere where residents come together to enjoy life after 55.

“We offer a wide variety of activities for our residents,” said Lee.

Twice a month, residents come together for a potluck lunch. The popular Bingo and Birthday Bash is held once each month, where a health services volunteer comes to the onsite community center and plays Bingo with the residents, and a birthday party is held for residents who have a birthday that particular month.

Residents also participate in Movie Day twice per month and enjoy watching their favorite movies in the community center.

For special holidays such as Labor Day and Memorial Day, family cookouts are held in the picnic area.

Lee said that a guest

speaker is secured to speak to the residents on a monthly basis. Recently, motivational speaker Dottie Langham, who lost her vision over time and is now legally blind, talked to the residents about her situation, how she’s handled becoming blind and what services and support were offered to her on a local level to help her overcome her handicap.

Another popular program is the twicea- week trainer who gives exercise classes at Catoosa Village I.

“The residents here stay active and really enjoy living here,” said Lewis.

Part of what both residents and visitors love about the Villages is the care that is put into the upkeep of the property. “We work hard to keep the facilities looking good,” said Lewis.

The most important function of the Villages is serving the residents who live there. “We strive to keep our residents happy,” said Lewis.
